Women’s Soccer Shut Out By NJIT, 3-0

Minutewomen return to Rudd Field on Sunday to take on Harvard.
NEWARK, N.J. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision to NJIT on the road at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Minutewomen move to 1-1-0 overall, while the Highlanders improved to 1-1-0 on the season.
The Highlanders struck first at the 39:14 mark, as Maria Nogueria scored an olimpico goal. Despite NJIT's 1-0 lead, UMass outshot the Highlanders, 9-4, as Amelia Bloom and Caroline Dickson combined for seven of the shots.
The Highlanders pushed ahead, 2-0, in the 56th minute with a goal from Mikayla Balio. UMass' Peyton Costello had an opportunity for the Minutewomen at the 52:35 mark, but the goal was waved off for a call of a handball. NJIT added another tally a minute and 12 seconds later with a goal from Julia Bullock to lead 3-0.
Massachusetts edged NJIT in shots, 17-12, but the Highlanders recorded 11 on goal to the Minutewomen's six. NJIT had the slight advantage in corners, 5-4, over UMass.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld registered a career-best eight saves and allowed three goals through 90 minutes in net. NJIT's Enya Carthy made two saves in the first half, while Mojisola Ayodele stopped four shots in the second half.
UMass hosts Harvard at Rudd Field on Sunday, August 24, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
