Massachusetts Women’s Soccer Edges Out Harvard, 2-1

August 24, 2025 | Women's Soccer

Morgan Bellamy and Amelia Bloom score first career goals in the win.

AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore forward Morgan Bellamy scored the game-winning goal to give the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team a 2-1 victory at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon. Fellow classmate Amelia Bloom earned her first career multi-point game, along with her first career goal on the day.

Freshman Aline Traber registered her first career assist, as well.

The Minutewomen improve to 2-1-0 overall, including 2-0 at Rudd Field, while the Crimson fall to 0-1-0 on the year.

Harvard got on the board first in the 39th minute to lead, 1-0. A foul drawn in the box gave the Crimson a penalty kick that was converted by Audrey Francois. UMass had a few more chances to equalize, but the first half ended with Harvard ahead.

The Minutewomen recorded the game-tying goal quick in the second half, as Bloom notched her first career goal. Traber dribbled the ball around a Harvard defender in the 18-yard box, before passing it around to the middle of the box to Bloom. Bloom kicked the ball towards the net, sailing it past the goalkeeper at the 47:13 mark.

Bellamy made it a 2-1 game, putting UMass on top, in the 59th minute. A Massachusetts corner taken by Bloom was headed down by Bellamy. Bellamy, then got a foot on the ball as it bounced in front of the goalkeeper to find the back of the net. The Crimson tallied two quick shots in the final seconds with one saved and one cleared by Peyton Costello off the line to maintain the Minutewomen's triumph.

Harvard outshot Massachusetts, 19-9, including 7-5 on goal. The Crimson also had the advantage in corners, 14-4, over the Minutewomen. Bloom, Traber and Caroline Dickson all had two shots each, while three other Minutewomen took a shot.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld stopped six shots on the afternoon and allowed one goal through 90 minutes in net. Rhiannon Stewart of Harvard made three saves and let in two goals throughout the entire match.

UMass heads to Hanover, New Hampshire, on Thursday, August 28, for a 7 p.m. contest at Dartmouth on ESPN+.
