Baseball Falls To Boston College, 13-6, In Beanpot Consolation

Beverly recorded a career-best three doubles on the afternoon.
UMass moved to 12-26-1 overall on the season, while Boston College improved to 22-23 on the year.
Jack Beverly accumulated a team-leading three hits, for his seventh, eighth and ninth double of the season, marking a career-high of three. Braden Sullivan and Reece McCarthy followed close behind with two hits apiece, which included Sullivan's eighth double and McCarthy's second, while Anthony Tirado. Marc Willi and Sam Hill had one hit each. Tirado and Sullivan each crossed the plate twice on the day, as Beverly led with three RBI. Tirado, Sullivan and Carter Hanson also contributed one RBI apiece.
After three scoreless innings, Boston College broke through after scoring on a wild pitch to make it a 1-0 game in the fourth. The Eagles added two more runs in the inning to lead, 3-0. Boston College extended its lead to 4-0 with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.
The Minutemen got on the board in the bottom of the fifth and knotted the game up at 4-4. Back-to-back walks, before Jack Peters reached on a fielder's choice loaded up the bases. Tirado doubled down the right field line to score McCarthy, making it a 4-1 game. Sullivan singled to right field to drive home Peters, before a sacrifice bunt helped Tirado cross the dish put UMass within one at 4-3. Beverly registered a double of his own as Sullivan came home to tie up the game.
Massachusetts claimed its first lead in the seventh. With two outs, Beverly recorded his third double of the afternoon to drive home Tirado and Sullivan to give the Minutemen a 6-4 lead.
Boston College came back within one at 6-5 in the eighth with a solo home run. A grand slam aided the Eagles to a 9-6 lead. In the final frame, Boston College plated four runs to go on and win 13-6 on the day.
Jack Levine (2-4) had the loss for the Minutemen, giving up four runs on one hit, walking four and dealing three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched. Gavin Soares (2-0) earned the win, allowing only one hit, one walk and striking out three in 1.1 innings of work.
Massachusetts hosts Siena on Wednesday, April 30, at Earl Lorden Field at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
