Women’s Soccer Tallies 4-0 Shutout Win Over Northeastern At Home

Four Minutewomen scored during the victory and Bella Mendoza earned her 13th career shutout.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer collected a defiant 4-0 shutout win over Northeastern University on Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field. Four Minutewomen in senior forwards Bella Recinos, Chandler Pedolzky and Ashley Lamond, and  graduate student midfielder Ella Curry, scored on the day, while redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza notched her 13th career shutout; and second on the season.
 
Massachusetts improved to 3-2-1 on the season, while Northeastern's record slipped to 0-3-2 overall on the year.
 
Recinos got UMass on the board quickly at the 4:47 marker, releasing a kick to the top right of the net to lend the home team an early lead. The goal was Recinos' third of the year. The Minutewomen continued to dominate across the first half, outshooting the Huskies by a margin of 10-1. The twin-sister duo of Chandler Pedolzky and Emma Pedolzky connected at 26:10 to put Massachusetts up by two goals before halftime. The seniors combine for six points in six games played this season.
 
During the second half, UMass continued its complete play allowing the Huskies a mere three shots on goal. Curry furthered Massachusetts' advantage, completing a dash to the goal off of Recinos' assist at 63:22 for her first goal of the season. Just three minutes later Lamond cemented the Minutewomen's victory off of graduate student forward Karina Groff's attempt, jabbing the ball past the goal-line to amount the ultimate 4-0 score.
 
The Minutewomen completed 15 shots, while allowing Northeastern to just four across 90 minutes.
 
Mendoza collected her 13th career shutout, and second of the season, while posting two saves in net. Northeastern's goalkeeper Eliza Teplow made six saves in 67 minutes, before being substituted out by Sophie Theresia for the remainder of the second half.
 
Massachusetts looks ahead for a weekend trip to Smithfield R.I. to face Bryant on Sunday, September 8th. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
