Last Time Out
The Minutewomen improved to 2-2-1 in the season, after defeating Boston College, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon, providing the Eagles their first loss of the year.
Junior forward Nia Hislop collected three points on the day, notching the game-winning goal and adding an assist.
A strong defensive stance in the opening 45 minutes for both teams helped the match to a 0-0 tie heading into halftime. In the second half, senior midfielder Bella Recinos put home a goal early in the 48th minute. Senior forward Chandler Pedolzky caused a turnover in the middle of the field, sending a pass towards Hislop in open field. Hislop dribbled the ball into the 18-yard box before crossing it over to Recinos in the middle of the box. A one-touch with her right foot, Recinos botted the ball into the top left of the net to give the Minutewomen the 1-0 lead.
Hislop doubled up the lead for Massachusetts for her first goal of the season in the 81st minute. After an initial shot from graduate student forward Grace Pinkus that was saved, Hislop buried her shot in the bottom right of the goal off the rebound. Boston College scored late in the match to make it a 2-1 game.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza allowed only one goal and stopped four shots throughout 90 minutes of play.
Keeping Track
Mendoza placed her name on the program's career saves list, ranking eighth after collecting her 220th save against Rutgers last Sunday.
Mendoza earned a 1-0 shutout on Sunday, August 25, against Rutgers, etching her name in the career records for the program. The San Ramon, California, native, tied Tammie Easton (1982) for 10th with 12 career shutouts.
Additionally, graduate student midfielder Ella Curry is four games away from putting her name on the career games played list to tie for 10th with 79 games played.
Defending Fort Rudd
Massachusetts defended its home turf with a 1-0 win over Rutgers and a 0-0 draw last Thursday against Harvard, pushing its regular season home slate to a 7-0-2 record, continuing a record that spans from August 31, 2023. Last year, the team finished the regular season with a home record of 6-0-1.
The Minutewomen's undefeated home record last season marked the first time for the program since the 1993 season, when the team went 8-0-2. It also marked the first time in program history UMass went undefeated at Rudd Field since its opening in 2002.
