Women’s Soccer Falls To Army, 3-2

Minutewomen welcome Rutgers for home opener at Rudd Field on Sunday, August 25.
WEST POINT, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer dropped a 3-2 match to Army West Point on Thursday afternoon at Malek Stadium.
Massachusetts moves to 0-2-0 on the season, while Army improved to 2-1-0 overall on the year.
Army's Bella Conti pushed the Black Knights to an early 2-0 lead with after finding the back of the goal in the 15th and 25th minutes. The Minutewomen cut the deficit in half, 2-1, at the 33:14 mark with a goal from sophomore Caroline Dickson. Graduate student Grace Pinkus dribbled the ball into the 18-yard box, sailing it towards the net. Dickson ran to the pass and guided the ball to the bottom left of the net in the six-yard box, scoring her first collegiate goal.
UMass knotted the game up at 2-2 in the second half. Freshman Sophia Foley chased the ball down before sending it across into the 18-yard box. Senior Chandler Pedolzky corralled the ball and booted it past Army's goalkeeper Sage Strohman. Pedolzky continued to dribble the ball towards the goal, notching her first of the year. At the 68:03 mark, the Black Knights regained the lead at 3-2 as Cami Silvestro scored.
In addition to Dickson's first career goal, Foley collected her first career point with her assist on Pedolzky's goal.
Pedolzky led the way with four shots, including three on target. Foley, Dickson and senior Bella Recinos followed with two shots apiece, as Dickson had both of her shots on goal. UMass outshot Army, 15-12, while the Black Knights took seven corners to the Minutewomen's three.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza played the full 90 minutes in net for Massachusetts, allowing three goals and saving two shots.
