Women’s Soccer Draws Bowling Green, 2-2

The Minutewomen remain undefeated in MAC competition, moving to 3-0-1 on the season.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – University of Massachusetts women's soccer played to a 2-2 draw against Bowling Green on Thursday afternoon at Cochrane Stadium to remain undefeated in Mid-American Conference competition. With the tie, Massachusetts moves to 9-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the league.
The last time UMass went undefeated in conference play (win or tie) in four straight contests was in the 2020-21 season as the team picked up four consecutive wins, spanning from March 14 through March 28.
Bowling Green moved to 5-1-4 overall on the season and 1-0-3 in the MAC.
UMass was awarded a penalty kick at the 16:12 mark due to a handball in the box on Bowling Green. Amelia Deren took the penalty kick, converting her fifth of the season to give the Minutewomen a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Bowling Green knotted up the game, 1-1, in the 36th minute with a goal to the top left of the net by Minah Syam.
In the first half alone, Massachusetts tallied seven shots, while Bowling Green had four. UMass put six of their seven shots on target, with the Falcons only placing two on goal.
Massachusetts reclaimed the lead at the 59:53 mark of the second half. As Bowling Green took possession on a short goal kick, the Falcons tried to connect on a pass at the top of their own box, but Monica Curry intercepted the pass. Curry booted the ball high right past the Bowling Green keeper to make it a 2-1 contest.
In the 85th minute, Emma Butera of the Falcons tied up the game once again at 2-2. Bowling Green took a few more shots, but the contest ended in a draw.
Bowling Green had the advantage in shots overall over Massachusetts, 22-12. Both teams tallied eight shots on goal and had two corner kicks each.
Caroline Dickson led the team in shots with four, putting three on net. Deren followed with two, as six Minutewomen posted one shot apiece. Deren, Curry, Annie McCaffrey, Amelia Bloom and Emma Burke all totaled on shot on goal.
Leah Nisenfeld stopped six shots and allowed two goals through 90 minutes of action.
Payton O'Malley of Bowling Green allowed two goals and saved five shots.
The Minutewomen return to Rudd Field for a 1 p.m. match against Toledo on Sunday, October 4, on ESPN+, for the Paint It Pink/Breast Cancer Awareness game.
