Season Opener Ends in Draw at Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Men's soccer opened the 2024 season on the road, battling to a 0-0 draw against Siena on Thursday night.
UMass created a premiere scoring chance right out of the gates when Aidan Kelly sent one towards the top-left shelf in the eighth minute. However, a save by Siena kept he game scoreless heading into the halftime break.
Alec Hughes and Matt Cence led a coordinated attack coming out of halftime, each recording a shot on goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Both finished with a team-high three shots and one shot on goal. Massachusetts would hold an 11-7 shot advantage, despite conceding a 6-2 corners discrepancy in favor of the Saints.
The Minutemen's pace earned themselves one final scoring chance in the 89th minute as Hughes sent a header to the far-side post with Bilal Hersi trailing. Hersi was just barely out of range to make a play on the ball, resulting in a goal kick for Siena.
Alex Geczy got the start in net for UMass, recording three saves on seven shots faced.
