KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The University of Massachusetts men's soccer program (5-7-3, 1-2-1 Summit) fell 3-2 to No. 5 Kansas City (11-2-2, 4-0-0) in a Summit contest at Durwood Soccer Stadium on Sunday. Despite a late goal by Liam Gainey, consecutive goals by UMKC's Mariano Beunza late in the first half was too much for Massachusetts to overcome.
The duo of Henry Hutchinson and Gainey each netted their third goal of the season, with Hutchinson striking first in the 14th minute to tie the contest at 1-0 on a right flick to the right corner. Gainey scored on a maneuvering spin move, firing through the teeth of the defense and connecting in the 55th minute.
Massachusetts offense recorded 14 shots, and three on goal to UMKC's 22 and 10.
Linden recorded a career-high tying seven goals for the second time this season, both of which coming against ranked opponents, as the first occurring against No. 10 Bryant on Aug. 20. Linden increased to 60 saves on the season, with a 71.4 save percentage.
