Women’s Soccer Stymied By Syracuse, 2-0, In Season Opener

Minutewomen return to action Thursday, August 22, for a road test against Army.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer fell, 2-0, to Syracuse University in the season opener on Thursday night at SU Soccer Stadium.
Syracuse's Ava Uribe started off the scoring in the 13th minute. Ashley Rauch followed with a goal off a pass fed by Uribe in the 20th minute to extend the Orange's lead to 2-0. Syracuse held on to its lead through the remainder of the contest.
UMass finished the match with 18 shots, including 11 in the second half, as Syracuse recorded four. The Minutewomen also led in corners with 18 total, while the Orange had three. Massachusetts took seven corners alone in the second half of the game.
Freshman Amelia Bloom tallied six shots in her debut, registering three in each half. Senior Chandler Pedolzky followed with four shots of her own, including three in the opening 45 minutes of the contest.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza played the full 90 minutes in net for the UMass. She came away with two saves and allowing two goals.
