UMass Picks Up 19-2 Win Over George Washington On Senior Day

Kassidy Morris and Charlotte Wilmoth led 11 different goal scorers with four each as UMass extended its winning streak to 10 games.

AMHERST, Mass. The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team picked up a 19-2 win over George Washington on Senior Day Saturday at Garber Field to mark its 10th consecutive win. Kassidy Morris and Charlotte Wilmoth led 11 different goal scorers with four goals each in the victory.
 
Jordan Dean finished with 18 draw controls to break the single season record with 221, previously held by Caitlyn Petro (212, 2017). The junior also became the second Minutewoman in program history to eclipse 400 for her career, joining Hannah Murphy (2014-17). Dean led a draw unit that finished the day with a 20-3 advantage in the category.
 
UMass jumped out to an 7-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, a frame that began with Kelly Brown's first career goal at UMass just 1:32 into play. Wilmoth followed three minutes later with her first of four before Morris netted her 55th of the season to make it 3-0 with 7:21 to play. Fiona McGowan finished with a goal and an assist on the day, finding the back of the net with 4:52 remaining in the first to make it 4-0 before GW put home its first goal of the afternoon. Morris added her second with under three minutes left in the frame prior to goals from Skylar Simmonds and Lil Hancock. Simmonds finished the day with two goals and four assists for six points.
 
The Minutewomen held the Revolutionaries without a goal in the second quarter while outscoring the visitors 6-0. Wilmoth and Morris each netted two of their four goals individually in the second frame as UMass took a 13-1 lead into the halftime break. Lauren Tolve made it 9-1 with her ninth of the year with 13:55 to go with Charlotte Clavelli posting her first of two goals with 4:25 left in the half.
 
After Simmonds opened the second half with her second goal of the day before Audra Tosone found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season to make it 15-1 with 11:17 to play. Defensively, Tosone finished with a pair of caused turnovers and ground balls while Layton Nass added two caused turnovers for a UMass team that finished with seven on the day.
 
Brigid Welch and Paris Melberg became the 10th and 11th Minutewomen to score on the day in the fourth quarter, with Welch scoring her second career goal at the 4:09 mark before Melberg scored her first of the season and third of her career with 2:14 to play.
 
Catrina Tobin picked up her 11th win in the cage for the Minutewomen before being relieved by Bridgette Wall and Gianna Cameron in the second half.
 
UMass concludes the regular season on Saturday, April 27 with a noon start at Richmond in a battle between the top two teams in the Atlantic 10 standings.
