Swim & Dive Drops Dual Meet At Fordham

The Minutewomen fell, 182.5-117.5, while the Minutemen dropped, 160-136, to the Rams.

BRONX, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team wrapped up the regular season with a dual meet against Atlantic 10 foe Fordham University on Saturday afternoon at Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center. The Minutewomen dropped the dual 182.5-117.5 to the Rams, while the Minutemen fell 160-136.
 
Sophomore Minutewomen diver Shreeya Sinha etched her name in 10th in the record book after claiming the gold in the one-meter dive with a total of 268.50, while sophomore Minutemen diver Andrew Bell broke his own previous school record of 397.28 in the three-meter dive with a total of 403.73.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
 
The Minutewomen came away with four individual gold medals on the day, while securing 21 top-three finishes.
 
Freshman Sophie Porter started off the individual events with a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle, swimming a time of 10:56.84, before junior Anna Kwon picked up the first gold of the afternoon with a time of 1:55.46 in the 200 freestyle. Senior Bri Williams swam a time of 57.27 in the 100 backstroke to take second with fellow classmate Megan Mitchell following behind in third with a time of 57.37.
 
Freshman Lindsay Burbage earned third-place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.28, as fifth-year student Summer Pierce grabbed the second gold medal for the Minutewomen, recording a time of 2:05.73 in the 200 butterfly. Senior Maggie Desmond touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.14 and in the 100 freestyle senior Caroline Mahoney claimed second with a time of 53.24.
 
Mitchell (2:03.52) and junior Lauren Stott (2:07.25) took second and third, respectively, in the 200 backstroke, while Burbage finished with a time of 2:25.63 in the 200 breaststroke for a third-place finish. Freshman Olga Stoura raced in the 500 freestyle for the first time this season, registering a time of 5:18.36 to place third.
 
In the 100 butterfly, senior Ashley Calderon finished with a time of 56.94 to take second and freshman Beren Cakiroglu placed third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:11.62.
 
 
In the relays, the team of Mitchell, Burbage, Pierce and Desmond raced into second place with a combined time of 1:45.65, followed by the team of Williams, freshman Diya Ackerman-Vallala, Calderon and Mahoney in third with a time of 1:46.63. The 400 freestyle relay team of Kwon, Mitchell, Desmond and Mahoney claimed second after swimming a time of 3:33.35.
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
 
The Minutemen tallied 41 top-three finishes, while placing first in six individual events.
 
Freshmen Jude Boukarroum recorded a personal-best time of 9:51.06 in the 1000 freestyle to start off the Minutemen with an individual gold medal. Senior Wilson Dubois finished second in the event with a time of 9:53.05. Senior Eric Eastham placed third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.89, while junior Beau Bengston registered a season-best time of 52.40 in the 100 backstroke to claim second.
 
Seniors Freddie Borg (58.03) and Jack Artis (58.33) placed first and second, respectively in the 100 breaststroke, as freshman Aydin Erkan picked up the gold in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:53.03. Senior Charles Blanc followed Erkan in the event, taking second with a time of 1:54.10.
 
In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Sammy Quigg raced into second with a time of 21.19, before finishing third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.65. Eastham grabbed a gold medal of his own in the 200 backstroke, recording a time of 1:52.54, while senior Sam Haddad had a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.54.
 
Graduate student Emerson Kiefer swam a time of 4:47.16 in the 500 freestyle to take second, as Dubois followed in third with a time of 4:50.83. Junior Grant Beebe took third with a time of 51.73 in the 100 butterfly and Haddad took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:55.42.  
 
During the relay events, the 200 medley relay team of Bengston, Haddad, Beebe and Quigg combined for a time of 1:34.44 to place third. The 400 freestyle relay team of Kiefer, Blanc, Eastham and Quigg combined for time of 3:07.23 to secure second place.
 
 
On The Boards
Sinha secured first in the one-meter dive with a personal-best total of 268.50, placing herself 10th in the Massachusetts record book. Sinha finished in third in the three-meter dive, tallying a six-dive score of 262.80.   
 
Bell took first in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. He scored a 363.50 in the one-meter, while breaking his previous school record in the three-meter dive, earning a personal-best score of 403.73. Graduate student Tommy Cotner finished second in both events. In the one-meter, Cotner scored a 276.60, before earning a season-best score of 313.73 in the three-meter.
