Swim And Dive Shake Up The Record Book On Final Day Of A-10 Championships

The Minutewomen and Minutemen saw 15 all-time records, including four new school records.

HAMPTON, Va. – University of Massachusetts swim and dive saw 15 members earn top-10 all-time placements in the record book, including four holding school records on the final day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex.
 
The Minutewomen finished seventh at the A-10 Championships with 296 points, while the Minutemen came in second to conclude the event with 455.50 points.
 
Senior Megan Mitchell broke a school record in the women's 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.83, as her previous time of 1:57.52 fell. Senior Eric Eastham finished the men's 200 backstroke with a new school record time of 1:44.96, beating Oliver Wyeth's (2015-16) time of 1:45.33.
 
Sophomore Sammy Quigg broke his previous record of 44.02 in the men's 100 freestyle with a new time of 43.54, and the men's 400 freestyle relay team of graduate student Emerson Kiefer, sophomore Aidan Shepston, Eastham and Quigg broke last years' time of 2:59.08 with a new combined time of 2:57.12.

Additionally, sophomore Andrew Bell was named the A-10 Most Outstanding Men's Diver of the Year, while diving coach Missy Bernosky earned the Men's Diving Coach of the Year honors. 
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
Mitchell started off the finals with her school record time of 1:55.83 I the 200 backstroke to win the bronze medal, before senior Caroline Mahoney finished the consolation final of the 100 freestyle with a personal-best time of 50.47, placing second all-time in the record books. Freshman Lindsay Burbage swam the third-best time in school history with her personal-best of 2:16.98 in the 200 breaststroke, while fellow classmate Divya Ackeerman-Vallala finished fifth all-time in the records with her personal-best time of 2:19.17.
 
Fifth-year student Summer Pierce took fifth place in the champions final of the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:00.24, as junior Anna Kwon finished the consolation final of the event with the third-best time in school history and a personal-best of 2:01.94.
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
Senior Wilson Dubois started the Minutemen off strong with a fourth-place finish in the 1650 freestyle. Dubois swam a personal-best time of 15:33.10, becoming the fourth fastest in school history. Eastham grabbed the silver in the 200 backstroke with his school record time of 1:44.96, while Quigg placed fourth with his school record time of 43.53 in the 100 freestyle.
 
Senior Sam Haddad became the second-fastest in school history in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.50 to take fourth in the event, followed by fellow classmate Jack Artis finishing fifth with a time of 1:58.51. Freshman Aydin Erkan recorded a personal-best time of 1:47.67 in the 200 butterfly, placing second all-time in the record books and fifth in the race.
 
Kiefer, Shepston, Eastham and Quigg placed fifth in the 400 freestyle relay, combining for a school record time of 2:57.12
 
On the Boards
Sophomore Shreeya Sinha claimed the bronze in the women's three-meter dive, scoring a personal-best of 294.95 in the event. Sinha's six-dive total landed her ninth all-time in the record book.
