Massachusetts Swim & Dive Complete Action At Terrier Invite

The Minutemen and Minutewomen combined for nine all-time marks in program history throughout the three-day event.

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts swimming and diving wrapped up competition at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Sunday at the BU Fitness and Recreation Center.  The Minutewomen finished in third (1,040.5) and the Minutemen placed fourth (840).
 
Massachusetts swim and dive saw four all-time records on the final day of action at the Terrier Invite.
 
Freshman Maria Grishaeva recorded the ninth best all-time mark in the 200 backstroke during the preliminary events (2:03.56), before beating her own record in the finals with a time of 2:02.99. Grishaeva also notched a program's all-time record time in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries with a personal-best time of 2:19.16.
 
For the Minutemen, freshman Nate Derby placed his name on the 200 breaststroke all-time record with a personal best time of 2:01.73, while sophomore Aydin Erkan etched his name in the 200 butterfly all-time list with the sixth best time of 2:01.73.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
 
Junior Lexi Alexen swam a season-best time of 17:37.90 in the 1650 freestyle to place eighth, followed by junior Molly Nelson in ninth with a personal-best time of 17:47.06 and sophomore Sophie Porter in 10th with a season-best time of 17:50.05.
 
Grishaeva took seventh with her personal-best time of 2:02.99 in the 200 backstroke, as freshman Karinne Everly swam a personal-best time of 52.35 in the 100 freestyle for eighth place.
 
Sophomore Lindsay Burbage posted a season-best time of 2:19.19 in the 200 breaststroke to grab the silver medal, while Grishaeva picked up the bronze medal with a time of 2:19.47 in the event.
 
The 400 freestyle relay team of freshmen Hannah Schoenauer and Courtney Tedesco, Everly and Lahmann placed fourth with a time of 3:29.41.
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
 
Sophomore Jude Boukarroum finished 12th in the 1650 freestyle with a season-best time of 16:26.12 with fellow classmate Cole Brooks  placing 17th with a personal-best time of 16:53.88.
 
Freshmen Chase Keeler (1:49.11) and Zach Szabo (1:50.86) recorded personal-best times in the 200 backstroke to take fifth and 11th, respectively. Junior Sammy Quigg collected the gold medal in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 44.64, as sophomore Alonso Montori swam into 11th in the event with a season-best time of 46.16.
 
The 200 breaststroke saw Derby place 11th with a personal-best time of 2:01.73, marking the program's fifth best mark of all-time. Erkan secured the bronze medal in the 200 butterfly with a personal-best time of 1:49.20, which was good for the sixth all-time mark in the UMass record books.
 
In the relays, junior Aidan Shepston, graduate student Juan Montori, Alonso Montori and Quigg combined for a time of 3:01.26 in the 400 freestyle relay.
 
 
 
Day Two
 
University of Massachusetts swimming and diving completed day two at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Saturday at the BU Fitness and Recreation Center with the Minutewomen in third with 751.50 points and the Minutemen in fourth with 594 points.
 
During the preliminary events, freshman Elizabeth Lahmann swam a personal-best 56.24 in the 100 butterfly to tie for seventh all-time in the UMass record books. Fellow classmate Maria Grishaeva etched her name in the record books, placing ninth all-time with a personal-best time of 56.72 in the 100 backstroke.
 
Grishaeva broke her personal-best record time in the finals of the 100 backstroke later in the evening, moving up to seventh all-time in the program with a new personal-best of 56.11. She also placed eight all-time with a personal-best time of 4:26.59 in the 400 individual medley. Sophomore Lindsay Burbage tied for sixth all-time in the 100 breaststroke breaking her previous personal-best with a new time of 1:03.04.
 
For the Minutemen, freshman Zach Szabo etched his name into the UMass record books with a personal-best time of 49.38, posting the 10th best mark of all-time.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
 
The Minutewomen had 14 top-10 finishes on the afternoon with Grishaeva and Burbage picking up a silver medal each.
 
Grishaeva started off the individual events with a second-place finish with a personal-best time of 4:26.59, marking the eight-best time in program history. Sophomore Diya Ackerman-Vallala recorded a season-best time of 4:30.18 in the event for 11th place.
 
In the 100 butterfly, graduate student Ashley Calderon finished fourth with a season-best time of 55.69, followed by Lahmann (56.37) in eighth. Freshman Karinne Everly swam a personal-best time of 57.03 to place 10th in the event.
 
Freshman Hannah Schoenauer had a personal-best time of 1:52.61 in the 200 freestyle for fourth, while Burbage took second in the 100 breaststroke with a personal0best time of 1:03.04, which placed her sixth all-time in the UMass record book.
 
Grishaeva raced into fourth with her seventh best time in program history of 56.11 in the 100 backstroke. Graduate student Bri Williams touched the wall fifth with a season-best time of 56.22 in the event.
 
During the relay events, the 200 medley relay team of Williams, Burbage, senior Anna Kwon and Lahmann placed fourth with a time of 1:43.46, while the 800 freestyle relay team consisting of Kwon, sophomore Beren Cakiroglu, Ackerman-Vallala and Schoenauer swam a time of 7:36.03 for a fourth-place finish.
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
 
The Minutemen totaled eight top-10 finishes on the day, as junior Andrew Bell placed first in the three-meter diving event.
 
Freshman Chase Keeler placed 11th in the 400 individual medley with a personal-best time of 4:01.29. The 100 butterfly saw senior Grant Beebe grabbed the silver medal with a season-best time of 49.13, with graduate student Juan Montori following behind in eighth place with a season-best time of 49.67.
 
Sophomore Cole Brooks swam a personal-best time of 1:41.22 to take 12th in the 200 freestyle, as sophomore Alonso Montori finished 13th with a season-best time of 1:41.73. Freshman Nate Derby placed 12th in the 100 breaststroke swimming a time of 56.75, marking a personal-best.
 
Szabo landed on the program's all-time list in the 100 backstroke after collecting the silver with a personal-best time of 49.38, marking the 10th best time of all-time. Senior Beau Bengston was 10th in the event with a season-best time of 50.46, while junior Sammy Quigg was 12th with a personal-best time of 50.59.
 
In the relay events, the 200 medley relay team of Bengston, Alonso Montori, Beebe and Quigg swam into seventh-place with a time of 1:31.54. The 800 freestyle relay team of Quigg, Brooks, Alonso Montori and Juan Montori combined for a time of 6:44.76 to take fifth.
 
On the Boards
 
Four Minutewomen competed in the one-meter dive, as junior Salem Howes (253.15) finished in fourth, freshman Danielle Guerin (245.50) took fifth, junior Shreeya Sinha (243.55) was sixth and freshman Khrystyna Yaremyn placed seventh with a personal-best total of 241.90.
 
Junior Andrew Bell picked up the gold medal in the men's three-meter event with a six-dive total of 385.95, while freshman Alex Kreidler took fourth with a score of 269.90.
 
 
Day One
 
University of Massachusetts swimming and diving finished day one action at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, at the BU Fitness and Recreation Center with the Minutewomen sitting in fourth with a score of 321 and the Minutemen in fifth with a total of 233 points.
 
Sophomore Lindsay Burbage recorded the lone top-10 all-time mark of the evening, swimming a time of 2:05.74 in the 200 individual medley to place eighth all-time in the record books.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
 
The Minutewomen had seven top-10 finishes on the day, as both relay teams and freshman diver Danielle Guerin secured third place for the highest placement of the day.
 
Senior Anna Kwon took seventh in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:04.16, while junior Molly Nelson finished the event in 13th with a season-best time of 5:08.27 and sophomore Olga Stoura placed 14th with her season-best time of 5:09.40.
 
Burbage raced into ninth place with a season-best time of 2:05.74 in the 200 individual medley, etching her name in eighth all-time in the program records. Fellow classmate Diya Ackerman-Vallala placed 11th with a season-best time of 2:07.37 in the event.
 
The 50 freestyle saw sophomore Beren Cakiroglu finish 10th with a season-best time of 23.90. Graduate student Bri Williams (24.03) and freshman Elizabeth Lahmann (24.06) both had personal-best times in the event to place 12th and 13th, respectively.
 
During the relay events, Cakiroglu, Williams, Kwon and graduate student Ashley Calderon combined for a time of 1:35.36 in the 200 freestyle relay to grab the bronze medal. The 400 medley relay team consisting of Williams, Burbage, Calderon and Cakiroglu swam into third with a time of 3:45.17.
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
 
The Minutemen tallied five top-10 finishes on the day, with junior diver Andrew Bell securing a gold medal in the one-meter dive.
 
Sophomore Jude Boukarroum swam in the 500 freestyle, finishing with a season-best time of 4:40.64.
 
In the 200 individual medley, freshman Chase Keeler placed sixth with a season-best time of 1:51.21, while fellow classmate Nate Derby raced into 11th with season-best time of 1:52.80. Junior Sammy Quigg was 10th in the 50 freestyle, swimming a time of 20.56.
 
The 200 freestyle relay team of seniors Grant Beebe and Beau Bengston, junior Aidan Shepston and Quigg took fourth with a time of 1:22.68. Keeler, Derby, freshmen Liam Rayson and Zach Szabo combined for a time of 3:21.55 in the 400 medley relay for a seventh place finish.
 
On The Boards
 
Guerin placed third in the three-meter dive for the Minutewomen with a score of 252.75. Bell picked up the gold medal in the one-meter event for the Minutemen with a six-dive total of 383.50.
