Massachusetts Swim & Dive Concludes Competition At Justin Jennings Invitational

The Minutewomen finished third, while the Minutemen placed second.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team concluded competition at the Justin Jennings Invitational, hosted by Colgate, on Saturday at Lineberry Natatorium.  
 
Sophomore Lindsay Burbage claimed the gold in the 200 breaststroke, while junior Salem Howes finished first in the three-meter dive for the Minutewomen.  
 
For the Minutemen, junior Sammy Quigg took first in the 100 butterfly, as fellow classmate Andrew Bell was first in the one-meter dive.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
 
The Minutewomen finished in third with a score of 710 behind Colgate (802) and St. Bonaventure (791), while sitting ahead of Saint Francis (419) and Le Moyne (185).  
 
Freshman Elizabeth Lahmann began day two of the event with a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 54.21. Senior Lauren Stott (2:10.16) and freshman Maria Grishaeva (2:11.04) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200 backstroke.
 
In the 200 breaststroke, Burbage earned her second gold medal of the weekend with a time of 2:25.31, while Grishaeva placed third with a time of 2:27.36 and freshman Kendall Gilbert swam into fourth with a time of 2:27.50. Senior Anna Kwon was second (58.62) in the 100 butterfly, as Lahmann was fourth (59.26) and freshman Karinne Everly was fifth ( 59.28) in the event.
 
Freshman Hannah Schoenauer completed the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.61 to take second, followed by Burbage in fourth with a time of 2:13.45.
 
In the relays, the team consisting of sophomore Beren Cakiroglu, Everly, Schoenauer and Kwon, raced into third with a time of 3:37.78 in the 400 freestyle relay.
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
 
The Minutemen placed second with 662.5 points, behind St. Bonaventure (1,185.5), with Colgate (520.5) and Le Moyne (435.5) in third and fourth, respectively.
 
Quigg grabbed the gold in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.28, while junior Aidan Shepston placed fifth with a time of 47.87. Freshman Chase Keeler earned the bronze medal in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.09.
 
In the 100 butterfly, Quigg finished fourth with a personal-best time of 51.57, followed closely by senior Grant Beebe in sixth with a time of 51.89 and sophomore Aydin Erkan in seventh with a season-best time of 52.19.
 
Freshman Nate Derby capped off the individual events with a sixth-place time of 2:00.13 in the 200 individual medley.
 
During the relay events, the team of Beebe, graduate student Juan Montori, Shepston and Quigg swam into second with a time of 3:07.63.
 
On The Boards
Howe sat atop the podium in the three-meter dive for the Minutewomen with a six-dive total of 236.70, while freshman Danielle Guerin placed second with a score of 232.15.
 
Bell finished the one-meter dive with a score of 355.90 to claim first.

Both the men's and women's swim team host Yale on Saturday, October 19, for a dual meet at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool. Diving events will begin at 11 a.m. with swimming events starting at 1 p.m.


DAY ONE

Swim & Dive Complete Day One Action At Justin Jennings Invitational
Three Minutewomen earned first-place, while two Minutemen finished first on the day.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team completed action on day one of the Justin Jennings Invitational, hosted by Colgate, on Friday evening at the Lineberry Natatorium.
 
For the Minutewomen, sophomore Lindsay Burbage, freshman Hannah Schoenauer and junior Shreeya Sinha picked up gold medals in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.50), 200 butterfly (2:08.25) and the one-meter dive (245.85), respectively.
 
Junior Sammy Quigg finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:41.71) for the Minutemen, while fellow classmate Andrew Bell placed first in the three-meter dive (386.85).
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
The Minutewomen currently sit third with 353 points, behind Colgate (426) and St. Bonaventure (376). UMass sits ahead of Saint Francis (252) and Le Moyne (115).
 
Sophomore Sophie Porter kicked off the individual events with a ninth-place finish in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:37.34. Freshmen Maria Grishaeva (4:42.40) and Kendall Gilbert (4:48.98) took third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 individual medley on the day.
 
In the 200 freestyle, freshman Elizabeth Lahmann swam a time of 1:57.00 to place fourth, while senior Anna Kwon followed behind in fifth with a time of 1:57.06. Freshman Beren Cakiroglu led the way in the 100 backstroke, finishing third with a time of 59.68, while senior Lauren Stott recorded a time of 1:00.39 to swim into fifth.
 
Burbage picked up her second consecutive gold medal in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.50. Fellow classmate Hannah Schoenauer touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.25, as Kwon finished behind in second with a time of 2:09.01.
 
In the relays, the team of Stott, Burbage, Schoenauer and Cakiroglu combined for a time of 3:56.84 to race into second-place in the 400 medley relay.  
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
The Minutemen are sitting in second with 338.5 points, behind St. Bonaventure (590.5). Massachusetts is ahead of Colgate (303.5) and Le Moyne (232.5).
 
Sophomore Jude Boukarroum began the individual events in the 1650 freestyle, completing the race with a time of 16:48.72 for a fifth-place finish. Freshman Chase Keeler placed second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:15.25, while sophomore Aydin Erkan touched the wall third with a time of 4:15.86.
 
Quigg sat atop the podium in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.71, while senior Beau Bengston took fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.77.
 
In the 200 butterfly, senior Grant Beebe took sixth with a time of 1:59.16, as junior Aidan Shepston finished the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.76 to place fifth.
 
During the relay events, the team consisting of Bengston, freshman Nate Derby, Beebe and Quigg swam a time of 3:29.09 in the 400 medley relay to claim third.
 
On The Boards
For the Minutewomen, Sinha took first with a season-best six-dive total of 245.85 in the one-meter dive, as junior Salem Howes stood next to Sinha on the podium in second with a season-best total of her own of 244.40.
 
Bell finished the three-meter dive with a season-best total of 386.85 to claim first place for the Minutemen.
