UMass Battles With Dartmouth To 1-1 Draw

Alec Hughes netted his 27th career goal on a first half penalty kick.
AMHERST, Mass.– Alec Hughes scored from the penalty spot as UMass and Dartmouth battled to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday evening at Rudd Field. The draw extended the UMass home unbeaten streak to 15 games.
In the 19th minute of the game, Alec Hughes was brought down inside the box and drew a penalty. Hughes stepped up and buried the penalty kick in the bottom left corner to give the Minutemen a 1-0 lead. The goal was Hughes' 27th of his career, tying him for ninth all-time at UMass with Ptah Myers (2000-03) and Steve Cesnek (1986-89).
The Minuteman defense held Dartmouth without a shot on goal in the first half and built a 6-1 shot advantage going into the break.
UMass nearly extended its lead in the 78th minute when Aidan Kelly put one off the left woodwork. Eight minutes later, the Big Green's Douglas Arveskar headed one in to knot the game at 1-1.
Hughes led the UMass offense with four shots and three on goal as the Minutemen outshot the Big Green 10-7. UMass put eight of its 10 shots on target with Dartmouth finding the frame on four of seven attempts.
The Minutemen hit the road for their first conference matchup of the season as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne on Saturday, Sept. 16th for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
