Coach Fran O'Leary Records His 300th Career Win As UMass Tops Providence

Nick Zielonka recorded a pair of assists and scored game winning goal to pace Minutemen
PROVIDENCE R.I.- The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team (3-1-1) picked up a 3-2 win over Providence College (2-3-0) on Saturday night. The Minutemen were led by Senior midfielder Nick Zielonka who tallied a goal and two assists. Head coach Fran O'Leary earned his 300th career win with the victory.
Aiden Kelley opened up the scoring early as he netted his first collegiate goal in the third minute off a Nick Zielonka assist.
Zielonka continued to spread the wealth later in the first half as he headed a pass from Jack Englebert to Alec Hughes, who buried it to extend the UMass lead in the 14th minute.
Coming out of the break, the Friars found the back of the net in the 48th and 76th minute to tie the game. Just a minute after Providence knotted the game at two, Nick Zielonka played hero as he put the game-winning goal into the bottom right corner in the 77th minute.
Although the Friars outshot the Minutemen 15-13, goaltender Matt Zambetti answered the call by recording nine saves, tied for a career-best.
The Minutemen are back in action Tuesday, September 12, as they return to Rudd Field for a matchup with Ivy League opponent Dartmouth College. The game is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
