Men’s Soccer Falls On The Road At Brown

Sefunmi Taiwo scored his first of the season from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team fell on the road to Brown on Friday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field, 3-0. Sefunmi Taiwo scored his first of the new season and second of his career as he converted from the penalty spot in the 87th minute for the lone Minutemen (1-1-1 Overall) goal of the evening.
UMass produced chances at goal early and got its first shot of the night off a Nick Zielonka corner kick that found the head of Andrew Ortiz for a shot that sailed high. Just minutes later, Alec Hughes put a shot on frame off an Aidan Kelly header that was saved towards Ortiz for a shot that was blocked by a Brown defender.
Matt Zambetti picked up both of his first half saves with two in the 12th minute after Brown countered with a shot prior to a corner kick that led to another shot on target for the Bears.
Brown took a one goal advantage in the 25th minute on a left footed shot from in close by Kojo Dadzie that was placed into the top corner of goal. Dadzie added his second goal of the night in the 57th minute with a right shot from a similar spot to make it a 2-0 contest.
UMass followed Dadzie's first goal with another attempt just over a minute later as Matt Cence fired a shot following a deflection that was cleared off the line by the Brown defense. The Minutemen finished the first half with nine corners to the Bears' pair and held a 12 to five shot advantage.
The Bears added their third of the night two minutes after Dadzie's second, this time on a Heechan Han goal that came off a Zambetti save. Brown put seven of its 12 shots on target while UMass put six of 18 on frame.
The Minutemen return home to Rudd Field on Monday for a 4 p.m. kickoff against Yale.
