AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team concludes its two-game homestand to begin the 2023 regular season with a 5 p.m. kickoff on Monday against Central Connecticut State at Rudd Field. The Minutemen play their first road game of the new season on Friday at 7 p.m. against Brown in Providence, R.I.

Series vs. CCSU/Brown
UMass holds a 7-1-1 all-time series lead over CCSU after picking up a 4-2 win last season behind two goals from Alec Hughes and one each from Alex Brown and Andrew Ortiz. The Minutemen trail Brown in the all-time series with a 3-5-1 record. The teams last matched up in 2016 with the Minutemen picking up a 2-0 home win.

The Opener
The Minutemen played to a 2-2 draw in the season opener against Northeastern on Thursday behind a pair of goal from Alec Hughes. Hughes netted his first of the day on a Ryan Levay assist in the 25th-minute and added his second in the 54th-minute on an assist from Nick Zielonka. UMass put seven of its 12 shots on goal with Hughes finding target on three of four while Matt Cence put all three attempts on frame.

Hot Start for Hughes
Alec Hughes recorded a brace in the season opener after a junior season that saw the forward named the Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league in goals and points in 2022. The senior moved to 22 goals for his career and is five away from moving in the top-10 all time at UMass.

Protecting The Fort
The Minutemen hold a 12 match unbeaten streak at Rudd Field after posting a 4-0-4 record at home a season ago. UMass last lost on its home pitch on Sept. 18, 2021.

Player To Watch
Alec Hughes was named to the United Soccer Coaches Forwards to Watch List during the offseason and was selected to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference Squad.

Looking Ahead
UMass follows Friday's matchup at Brown with another Ivy League matchup on Monday, Sept. 4 at Rudd Field against Yale. The Minutemen and Bulldogs kick off at 4 p.m. UMass then heads to Providence for a 7 p.m. kickoff and Saturday, Sept. 9.
