#13 UMass Finishes A-10 Play Unbeaten With 23-4 Win Over George Mason

The Minutewomen finished the conference campaign with a perfect 9-0 record and an outright regular season title.

AMHERST, Mass. – The no. 13-ranked Massachusetts women's lacrosse team won its 14th consecutive game and secured an outright Atlantic 10 regular season championship with a 23-4 win over George Mason on Senior Day Saturday at Garber Field. The Minutewomen (15-1 Overall, 9-0 Atlantic 10) scored a season-high 23 goals in the win and were led by a four goal, six assist performance by Fiona McGowan.
 
UMass had 12 different goal scorers on the day with seven reaching two or more goals on the day. Alex Finn and Kassidy Morris each finished with a hat trick while Kylee Bowen recorded two goals and three assists for five points.
 
The Minutewomen posted 16 of their 23 goals in the opening half and held a 9-2 lead after the first. Morris opened the scoring with back-to-back goals before Amy Moreau netted her first of the day with 9:47 left in the quarter. Moreau finished the day with two goals and two assists for four points.
 
After the Patriots scored two of the following three goals, UMass scored five straight to close out the first as part of six unanswered goals. Finn scored two of her three goals in the quarter while McGowan closed out the first 15 minutes with back-to-back goals.
 
UMass scored six consecutive goals to end the second and take a 16-3 lead into the halftime break. Charlotte Clavelli reached 10 goals on the season with two straight for UMass to begin the quarter before Emma Farnham scored her first of the season with 9:25 to go in the half as one of her two goals on the day.
 
The Minutewomen scored all three of the game's goals in the third quarter with McGowan, Finn, and Caroline Whelan each finding the back of the net to put UMass up 19-3 heading into the fourth. Paris Melberg recorded her first goal of the season with 5:10 to go while defender Hannah Heller netted her eighth of the year with under a minute to go for the game's final goal.
 
Audra Tosone led the UMass defense with a pair of caused turnovers while Jordan Dean paced all players with a game-high 12 draw controls. Gina Carroll earned her 12th win of the season in goal for the Minutewomen with Catrina Tobin and Bridgette Wall entering goal for the third and fourth quarters, respectively, and finishing with two saves each.
 
UMass will begin the Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday, May 5 at noon in Richmond, Va. The top-seeded Minutewomen will play the winner of the no. 4-5 game with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship game at noon.
