Setting the Scene
University of Massachusetts baseball team travels to St. Bonaventure, New York, to matchup against Atlantic 10 foe St. Bonaventure University for three games at Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field on Friday, April 28 through Sunday, April 30. First pitch is set for 10 a.m., before Saturday's contest begins at 12 p.m. The series finale will be held on Sunday at 12 p.m. Both Friday and Sunday' games will be streamed on ESPN+, while Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN3.
 
The Minutemen are 8-25 overall on the season, including 1-11 in the A-10 Conference. St. Bonaventure holds a 6-30 record and a 3-9 record in the league. The Bonnies are coming off a doubleheader loss of 9-7 and 3-2 at Canisius on Tuesday.
 
Recap in a Minute
UMass got back into the win column with a midweek sweep, defeating Hartford 9-2 on Tuesday afternoon and taking down Siena, 10-5, on Wednesday.
 
Against Hartford, Steve Luttazi and Nolan Tichy contributed to UMass' score with a home run each in the seventh inning, while graduate student Tyler Dalton received his first winning decision of the season. Luttazi led the team with a career-high matching four hits, including his two-run long ball, and added two runs, and two RBI to his stat line. Tichy went 3-for-5 with a solo homer, marking his fifth of the season to tie the team lead, while tallying two runs and two RBI. Justin Blumenthal had a career-high and team best three RBI, as Blumenthal and Sam Hill both registered two hits. Dalton allowed only one hit, no runs, no walks and dealt three strikeouts in three complete innings pitched for Massachusetts.
 
Three Minutemen contributed multiple hits in the win vs. Siena, including Tichy who highlighted the day with three hits. Tichy recorded a career high two home runs, for a career-best six RBI, while Hill and Will MacLean also added three and two hits, respectively. Tichy and Hill led the Minutemen with three hits apiece, marking a career best for Hill, while MacLean added two. Both Carter Hanson and Blumenthal registered one hit each. Kevin Skagerlind led the way in runs scored with three, followed by Tichy with two and five Minutemen with one. Hill also had a career-high two doubles and two RBI. On the mound, Scott LeSieur received his first triumph of the season for Massachusetts, throwing for four innings, allowing no hits, no runs, two walks and getting a season-best three strikeouts.
 
All-Time vs. St. Bonaventure
The Minutemen and Bonnies will meet for the 68th time in program history, as UMass holds the 38-29 advantage in the all-time series. Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure first met on April 24, 1993, for a doubleheader. The Minutemen took game one 3-1, and game two, 6-1, while also sweeping the Bonnies with a 16-10 win in game three on the weekend. The last meeting between the two programs occurred on April 1, 2018, when St. Bonaventure defeated UMass, 7-5, in Amherst.
 
The Minutemen's last win against the Bonnies was on March 30, 2018, as Massachusetts won 5-3 on the day.

It's Going, Going, And It's Gone
Massachusetts has tallied 23 homeruns in 33 games played, from eight Minutemen. Tichy leads the production with seven, followed closely by Hanson with five. MacLean and Luttazi recorded four and three, respectively, so far, while Zack Zaetta, Mike Gervasi, Hill and Ryan Coleman have one apiece.
 
Hanson recorded his first long ball of the year in the first game of the season at Navy, before adding another in the game three of the UNC Asheville series. Coleman garnered his first career homer in game one at UNC Asheville, while Hill registered his first home run in game three of at UNC Asheville. Luttazi and MacLean had their first of the season in the Navy series in game three and game two, respectively. Gervasi had his first homer in game one of the Penn series, as Tichy garnered his first of the season in game three at Penn. Zaetta registered his first homer in game one at Saint Joseph's.
 
Tichy clubbed a career high two homers against Siena on April 26.

On A Roll…
Nine Minutemen are riding a current hitting streak, so far this season. MacLean sits atop the leaderboard with 12 while Luttazi has three games. Seven Minutemen are riding a one-contest streak. MacLean's current 12-game streak is the team's longest, while Hanson holds the second longest at nine, before that came to an end.
 
MacLean is on a current 15-game reached base streak, as Luttazi follows with nine. Skagerlind recorded six straight games with a reached base streak, while Zaetta has five. Tichy and Gervasi both have two games with a reached base streak, with six Minutemen holding a one-game streak. MacLean holds the teams' longest streak with a total of 15 games. Zaetta (13) and Tichy's (10) consecutive game totals are the teams' second and third longest, respectively, with MacLean's being the longest current streak.

Meet the Minutemen
A solid mix of returners and newcomers compose the 2023 edition of the Minutemen as the squad begins its 140th season. Twenty-one members of the team are back from the 2022 campaign, while eight players join for their first season in Amherst, including nine freshman, one sophomore and four transfers.
 
Keeping it in the Family
The 2023 season marks the 57th straight campaign that Massachusetts baseball will have an alumnus of the Flagship campus as head coach. Sixth-year skipper Matt Reynolds is a double graduate (2005, '10G), and was preceded by fellow alumni Mike Stone '82 (1988-2017) and Dick Bergquist '57 (1967-87).

This is the second longest active streak across Division I baseball. Only BYU (62 consecutive seasons) has been led by an alum of its campus for a longer period.
