#13 UMass Claims Share Of A-10 Title With A 15-12 Win At Saint Joseph’s

The Minutewomen claimed a share of their 12th consecutive A-10 regular season crown.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The no. 13-ranked Massachusetts women's lacrosse team claimed at least a share of a 12th consecutive Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship after recording a 15-12 win over Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field. The Minutewomen (14-1 Overall, 8-0 Atlantic 10) won their 13th straight game this season to help them claim the 15th regular season title in program history.
UMass jumped out to a 4-0 lead with the help of goals from Kylee Bowen, Amy Moreau, and Alex Finn. Moreau scored two of the first four goals for the Minutewomen and finished her day with a career-high five goals with seven of her eight shots on target. Lauren Tolve answered two consecutive Saint Joseph's goals with her 15th of the season with under 10 seconds remaining in the first to make it a 5-2 contest.
Moreau secured her hat trick with 9:37 to go in the second after Fiona McGowan recorded her first assists of a back-to-back. McGowan found Finn for her 34th goal of the year with 7:16 to go to make it a 7-3 game and finished the game with a pair of assists to move into a tie for 11th-most all-time by a Minutewoman with 59.
Charlotte Wilmoth pushed the lead to five with her first of three goals with 3:54 remaining prior to Kassidy Morris making it a 10-4 game at the halftime break with her 25th of the year with under 30-seconds left. Finn assisted on both goals to end the half and finished the afternoon with two goals and four assists for six points.
Saint Joseph's (9-7 Overall, 6-2 Atlantic 10) outscored UMass 6-2 in the third to pull within a pair of goals heading into the fourth. The teams traded goals twice to open the quarter with Moreau and Wilmoth answering for UMass before Saint Joseph's rattled off fourth unanswered goals in the final 4:44. Maddie Yoder led the Hawks with four goals while Alexa Capozzoli added three goals and a pair of assists.
Charlotte Clavelli's ninth of the season came just under five minutes into the fourth of a Morris assist to put UMass ahead by three before Saint Joseph's answered to bring it back to a two-goal game. Wilmoth netted her team-leading 38th of the season off a Finn assist to bring the score to 14-11.
The Hawks responded with their 12th and final goal of the day to cut the lead back down to two at 14-12 with 4:08 to go. Tolve caused her second turnover of the day on the following possession after the Hawks secured the draw control and McGowan followed moments later with her lone goal of the day to bring the count to 15-12 with 2:15 to go.
Saint Joseph's finished with a 17-13 advantage on the draw while UMass finished with a 33-26 shot advantage on the day. Moreau secured a team-high four draw controls with Jordan Dean, Audra Tosone, and Hannah Heller controlling three each. Gina Carroll finished with three saves and six goals allowed in goal for the Minutewomen while being credited with her 11th win of the season.
The Minutewomen return to Garber Field for the regular season finale on Saturday, April 29 for a 12 p.m. draw against George Mason. UMass will honor its seniors postgame on Saturday.
