McGowan, Moreau Guide #25 Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse Over Holy Cross, 16-10

WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 25-ranked University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team bested the Holy Cross Crusaders on Wednesday night by a score of 16 to 10. Fiona McGowan and Amy Moreau each notched four goals apiece to aid in the victory and McGowan registered four assists on the day. The win lifts the Minutewomen to a 4-1 record, while Holy Cross falls to 2-3 on the season.
UMass opened the evening with two consecutive goals in the first three minutes of action with the first coming on Kylee Bowen's 10th goal of the season less than 90 seconds in. McGowan added the second for the Minutewomen with her sixth of the season to make it 2-0 before Holy Cross answered. Massachusetts wrapped up the quarter scoring four of the last six goals of the frame, highlighted by Lauren Tolve's two tallies.
Moreau shined in the second frame, netting two of Massachusetts' four goals to wrap up the half. Charlotte Wilmoth and McGowan each scored one apiece to establish a five-goal cushion at the half.
Wilmoth opened scoring in the second half with her 12th goal of the season coming at 2:07. The Crusaders netted three of the next four goals, trimming their deficit to four. However, Massachusetts went on a three goal run to open up the final frame of the contest, with McGowan, Moreau, and Charlotte Clavelli each recording a tally. Alex Finn scored the final goal of the match for the Minutewomen with 2:48 to spare to capture the win.
Gina Carroll started between the pipes, registering three saves before Catrina Tobin entered the game at the half, saving eight shots.
The Minutewomen conclude their two-game road trip on Saturday afternoon at UConn at 1 p.m.
