Massachusetts Swim And Dive Set To Head To Atlantic 10 Championships

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to head to the Atlantic 10 Championships from Wednesday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 18 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
2022 Atlantic 10 Championship Recap
The last time the Minutemen and Minutewomen swam at the SPIRE Institute, the men finished in fifth place with 424.5 points, while the women finished in seventh place with 278 points.
Emma Petrovich was the lone medalist on the women's side, taking silver in the 1-meter dive with a score of 257.05 in the event.
For the men, Wilson Dubois captured silver in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 4:26.23. Emerson Kiefer claimed bronze in the 200-yard freestyle, recording a 1:38.85 finish. Jack Artis won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.68 seconds. Artis also took gold in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming the event in 1:59.00.
Last Time Out
Massachusetts last took to the pool on Jan. 28 when the men's and women's squads both fell to Fordham. The Minutemen were narrowly defeated by a score of 148 to 145, while the Minutewomen dropped the contest by a score of 164 to 136.
Petrovich was victorious in the 1-meter dive, recording a score of 264.45. Beatriz Olivieri recorded two first-place, season-best finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.51) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.92). Caroline Mahoney took first in both the 50-yard freestyle (24.07) and 100-yard freestyle (52.00) on the day. Megan Mitchell was the winner of the 100-yard backstroke race, swimming a time of 57.01. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Maggie Desmond, Ashley Calderon, Kirsten Ardis, and Mahoney swam to first place in 1:35.87.
Andrew Bell swept the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against Fordham, recording personal best scores in both events. Bell scored a 364.73 in the 3-meter dive, good for a bettered No. 2 all-time record in program history, as well as a 331.80 in the 1-meter dive, good for a bettered No. 3 all-time record in program history. Tommy Cotner followed in second place in both the 1-meter dive (317.25), as well as the 3-meter dive (317.25). Cotner's 3-meter dive performance put him at No. 7 all-time in program history in the event. Jake Bailey was victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:52.44. Artis was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.80 seconds. In the 200-yard backstroke, Eric Eastham raced to first in 1:52.88. Sam Haddad won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:08.53, while Kiefer captured first in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:45.82.
