AMHERST, Mass - The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team is back at home this Saturday as they host Fordham for an Atlantic 10 matchup. The Minutemen and Rams kick off at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
Series vs. Fordham
Saturday's matchup will be the 28th time the two teams meet. UMass currently leads the all-time series 16-9-2. The last time the Minutemen earned a win over Fordham was in 2018 when they topped the Rams 1-0. Fordham would go on to win the next two meetings and in last year's match they played to a 2-2 draw. Fordham is currently third in the Atlantic 10 rankings while UMass sits in fourth.
The Week Of Zielonka
Nick Zielonka had himself a week as the senior forward had a pair of goals against St. Bonaventure and assisted the game winning goal against Saint Joseph's. His performances led to a pair of weekly accolades. On Monday, Zielonka was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player Of The Week. On Tuesday, Zielonka was voted as one of UMass' Student Athletes Of The Week presented by UMassFive College Credit Union. He also sits atop the conference in total assists with seven.
Hughes' Place In The Record Books
After recording a brace against St. Bonaventure, Alec Hughes sits in 6th place all-time in career goals at UMass with 31. Hughes' two tallies put him past Dave Siljanovski (1993-96) and is now two goals shy of Andy Bing (1984-87) and Clarence Simpson(1951-53) . Hughes' 11 goals this season lead the conference and is third in the nation.
The Minutemen will travel to Lowell as they play the River Hawks for the Kennedy Cup on Tuesday night. UMass returns to Rudd Field Saturday, October 21st for Senior Day and a match against Davidson at 1 p.m. On the following Saturday the Minutemen head to Ohio for the regular season finale against the Dayton Flyers.
