Massachusetts Hockey Completes 2022-23 Roster With Addition Of Nodler

The 5-10, 195-pound forward will join the Minutemen as part of the senior class this fall.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 5-10, 195-pound, right-shot forward Josh Nodler to complete its 2022-23 roster, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Wednesday. Nodler, a 2019 fifth round (150th overall) draft pick of the Calgary Flames, joins the Minutemen after playing three seasons at Michigan State and will be a senior at UMass this season.
"Josh is a Calgary Flames draft pick and comes to UMass after three solid seasons at Michigan State," said Carvel. "Josh has great offensive instincts and plays a responsible two-way style. We expect him to be one of our top centers and an important part of our special teams and the leadership of our team."
Nodler appeared in 99 games over three seasons with the Spartans and registered 34 points on 13 goals and 21 assists with five power-play goals and two game winners. The Oak Park, Michigan native appeared in all 36 games in 2021-22 and posted career highs in points (15) and goals (7), while matching his season best in assists (8). He won 54.1% of his faceoffs last season, good for second on the team, while taking a squad-best 573 draws. Nodler earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2020-21 and 2021-22, won the team's Amo Bessone Award, honoring athletic and academic achievement along with community involvement in 2020-21 and was an AHCA Krampade All-American Scholar in 2019-20, while also earning the team's Rookie of the Year award.
Prior to his time at Michigan State, Nodler played one season for the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League (USHL) where he ranked fourth on the team and 11th among all USHL rookies with 42 points in 54 games, en route to a 2018-19 USHL All-Rookie Second Team recognition. His 17 goals were also fourth best on the team, while his 25 assists ranked ninth among all USHL rookies and third on the squad. Nodler was voted Fargo's Rookie of the Year, was chosen to play in the 2019 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and helped the U.S. to gold at the 2018 World Junior A Challenge.
He led the U.S. Under-18 Men's Select Team at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton, Alberta, with seven points (1g, 6a) and skated on the 2017 U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team that won first place at the Five Nations Tournament in Ostrava, Czech Republic, recording five points (2g, 3a) in four games. Nodler put up 22 points (8g, 14a) in 18 games and served as team captain for Honeybaked U16 in 2017-18, and also appeared in four games with the NTDP U-17s and two with Fargo that season. He played four seasons for Honeybaked.
