Trio Of Massachusetts Hockey Freshmen Selected In 2022 NHL Entry Draft

The three forwards are all part of the Minutemen’s incoming class for this season.
AMHERST, Mass. – A trio of University of Massachusetts hockey incoming freshman forwards were selected on day two of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft on Friday. Kenny Connors went 103rd overall in the fourth round to the Los Angeles Kings, Cole O'Hara heard his named called by the Nashville Predators 11 picks later (114th overall) and Tyson Dyck was chosen by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round at 206th overall.
"UMass hockey showed well again in the latest NHL Draft," said Massachusetts head coach Greg Carvel. "We have three talented freshmen forwards coming to campus who all had spectacular seasons in junior hockey last year and deserved to be chosen. Our program has proven to be one of the top teams in the NCAA in developing players and moving them on to professional hockey. These three young men will be great additions to our team next season and I'm excited to help them develop over the next few years."
Connors, a 6-1, 190-pound left-shot forward comes to UMass following two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Dubuque Fighting Saints where he registered 77 points over 115 games on 30 goals and 47 assists. In 2021-22 with Dubuque, he logged 56 points in 61 contests on 25 goals and 31 assists with a +22 rating during the regular season.
The Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania native recently received an invitation to the National Junior Evaluation Camp with USA Hockey alongside UMass teammates Scott Morrow and Ryan Ufko, which begins July 24 in Plymouth, Michigan.
O'Hara, a 6-0, 190-pound right-shot forward spent his final two seasons of junior hockey with the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and totaled 110 career points over 115 games on 39 goals and 71 assists and was +40.
Prior to playing in the USHL the Richmond Hill, Ontario native played two seasons (2018-20) in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) with the North York Rangers. O'Hara earned an OHA Top Prospect Award in 2019-20 and OJHL First Team All-Prospect recognition after putting up 24 goals and 48 assists for 72 points that season. In his first year with North York, O'Hara had 53 points (14g, 39a) in 69 games and was named OJHL Second Team All-Prospect.
Dyck, a 6-0, 170-pound left-shot forward joins the Minutemen following his first full season with the Cranbrook Bucks of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he amassed 80 points in 60 games on 38 goals and 42 assists. The Abbotsford, British Columbia native was named a BCHL First Team All-Star and to the BCHL All-Rookie Team in 2021-22.
