Massachusetts’ Knote Named CAA Player Of The Week

The junior had 20 saves in the Gorillas thrilling OT comeback victory over Delaware last Saturday.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse junior goalkeeper Matt Knote has been selected as the CAA Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Knote played a pivotal role in the Gorillas' 11-10 overtime victory over Delaware on Saturday to open CAA play at 1-0 and to preserve their perfect home record of 5-0 this season.
 
The Speonk, New York native made a season-high 20 saves against the Blue Hens, including 12 in the second half and overtime, limiting Delaware to one goal over the final 32:59 as UMass rallied from a five-goal deficit.
 
It marked Knote's seventh double-digit save performance in the past eight games and he currently leads the CAA with a 10.34 goals-against average.
 
UMass, winners of five straight for the first time since 2019, has cracked into the national polls, currently at No. 20 this week, and will next travel to Towson for a noon contest against the Tigers on Saturday, April 9.
