Recap in a Minute
UMass swept Fordham in a three-game series, winning 8-5, 7-5 and 8-7, respectively. The Minutemen earned its first series sweep over an Atlantic 10 opponent since claiming the series against George Mason in the 2016 season.

In game one against Fordham, an eight-run fourth frame aided UMass to a victory. Kevin Skagerlind led the Minutemen going 3-for-4, including a double, adding a run and two RBI. Cole Hebbled tallied two hits, also hitting a double and contributed one run and one RBI. A two-run home run from Mike Gervasi kicked off the scoring, while Jacob Sloss had two RBI on a double of his own. Kevin Dow earned his fifth victory on the mound as he went an impressive 8.2 innings, allowing only five runs on 12 hits, walking three and dealing four strikeouts. Cole Koeppel entered in the top of the ninth to claim his first collegiate save.

In game two during Sunday's doubleheader DeMartino led the team with three RBI, incuding a two-run home run, as he went 2-for-3 on the day and contributed two runs of his own. Minutemen in the Beanpot
Massachusetts has competed annually in the Beanpot since 1996 and captured the tournament crown six times (1996-98, 2000, 2008, 2012). Perhaps one of the most notable Beanpot pitching performances in program history came on April 22, 1997 when former Minuteman Scott Barnsby dealt a no-hitter at Fenway Park in the Semifinals against Northeastern. Barnsby's no-no was the first within the confines of the historic ballpark since 1965 and first such nine-inning performance by a UMass pitcher since 1957.

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Beanpot Tournament was canceled, and the 2021 tournament was not held.

In the tournament, UMass hold a 25-23 overall record, while Boston College holds a 8-6 advantage in the series.

All-Time vs. UMass Lowell
The Minutemen and Riverhawks will meet for the fourth time in program history, with UMass Lowell having a 3-0 advantage in the series. The two teams first met on May 11, 2016, at Lowell, with UML coming out on top, 7-3. The last meeting took place on April 11, 2018, at the Earl, with the Riverhawks winning 4-1.

Meet the Minutemen
A solid mix of returners and newcomers compose the 2022 edition of the Minutemen as the squad begins its 139th season. Twenty-seven members of the team are back from the 2021 campaign, while eight players join for their first season in Amherst, including five freshman and three transfers.

It's Going, Going, and It's Gone
The Minutemen have tallied 21 homeruns in 24 games, from nine Minutemen. DeMartino leads the team with six, followed by Steve Luttazi and Hebble with three. Gervasi, Aidan Wilde and MacLean tallied two each, while Skagerlind, Judd and Tichy also have one home run apiece.

Luttazi had a stellar first game with two home runs including a grand slam, before earning one in game three at Fairleigh Dickinson, while DeMartino recorded a two-run homer in game one at Fairleigh Dickinson, before adding solo home runs in both game two at Fairleigh Dickinson and the second game at Towson. DeMartino added two long balls in game one versus Saint Joseph's, as well.

[Multi]ple Games
UMass had a strong showing with multi-hit games, as the Minutemen have a total of 62 multi-hit performances. Hebble leads with a production of 13, which included two five-plus hit contests, and Gervasi and Skagerlind have eight, while DeMartino follows with seven. Tichy, Judd and MacLean registered five, as Sloss and Luttazi recorded three apiece. Wilde has totaled two with Chris Pearsons, Shapiro and Michael Rounds accumulating one.

Massachusetts have also contributed a total of 37 multi-RBI games, led by DeMartino with eight, including five two-run contests, one three-RBI and one- five-plus RBI games. Gervasi has contributed six, bringing in two runs four times, three runs once and four once. Judd has five, while Skagerlind has four, followed by Hebble and Tichy totaling three. Sloss and MacLean have had two, including MacLean's one three-run game.

On A Roll…
The Minutemen have seven that are riding a current hitting streak, so far this season. MacLean sits atop the leaderboard on a nine-game hitting streak, followed by Hebble with eight and Luttazi with three. Pearsons is on a two-game streak, while Shapiro, Carter Hanson and Christian Walsh have a current streak of one. Skagerlind rode the longest streak with 11 games, before it came to an end.

Hebble is also on a 16-game reached base streak, as DeMartino and Skagerlind have 12, followed by MacLean with 10 games. Sloss, Tichy, Judd and Gervasi have reached base eight times, while Luttazi has reached five times. Shapiro is on a three game streak, Pearsons and Hanson are on a two-game streak and Walsh with one.

Keeping it in the Family
The 2022 season marks the 56th straight campaign that Massachusetts baseball will have an alumnus of the Flagship campus as head coach. Fifth-year skipper Matt Reynolds is a double graduate (2005, '10G), and was preceded by fellow alumni Mike Stone '82 (1988-2017) and Dick Bergquist '57 (1967-87).

This is the second longest active streak across Division I baseball. Only BYU (62 consecutive seasons) has been led by an alum of its campus for a longer period.

On Deck
Massachusetts treks to Kingston, Rhode Island, to take on A-10 foe Rhode Island for three-games on Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday, before a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday. The series finale on Sunday will be played at 12 p.m.
