Baseball Falls, 14-10, To Boston College In Beanpot Finals

The Minutemen host UMass Lowell at Earl Lorden Field on Wednesday, April 13, at 3 p.m.
Cole Hebble went 3-for-5 on the day, including a double, and contributing two runs. Drew DeMartino, Will MacLean and Dylan Judd all had two runs on the day, while MacLean, Judd and Aidan Wilde tallied two RBI. MacLean also led the team with two doubles.
Boston College got on the board first with a run in the first inning, before a sacrifice fly from Judd allowed MacLean to score, as UMass knotted the game up at one apiece in the second.
The Eagles reclaimed the lead off a solo home run, making it a 2-1 contest in the top of the third. The Minutemen quickly took the lead in the bottom half of the third collecting six runs. With the bases loaded, DeMartino walked, sending Hebble to home for the tying run. MacLean hit a double that knocked in Kevin Skagerlind and Mike Gervasi as UMass took a 4-2 lead. DeMartino touched the plate off a single to left field from Judd, before a single from Wilde brought around MacLean to score. Judd capped the scoring in the frame, after a single from Collin Shapiro brought him around from second base.
BC tallied two more runs in the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth to close the gap, 7-6. Wilde sailed the ball to right center for an RBI double, allowing Judd to cross home plate and push ahead, 8-6 in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth, Boston College scored two to bring the game to an 8-8 draw, before taking a 10-8 lead in the top of the seventh, collecting two runs. The Eagles earned four more in the top of the eighth to extend their lead, 14-8.
The Minutemen add a run in the bottom of the inning and another in the final frame, but it was not enough as BC came out on top 14-10 to win the Beanpot Championship.
Cole Koeppel (0-1) took the loss for UMass, allowing two runs on one hit in one inning, while Boston College's Max Gieg (2-1) earned the win, walking only one batter and getting one strikeout in one inning.
