No. 24 Minutewomen Fall to No. 1 Boston College

AMHERST, Mass. — The No. 24 Minutewomen fell to the No. 1 Boston College Eagles, 22-5, Wednesday afternoon at Garber Field. Massachusetts fell to 1-1 while BC moved to 2-0 on the season.
Kendra Harbinger once again led off for the Minutewomen scoring the first goal in the opening frame. Boston College answered as Belle Smith scored at the 6:52 mark. Julia Smith put Massachusetts back in the lead with just under six minutes to play, brining the score to 2-1. Back-to-back goals, from the nation's leading scorer, Charlotte North, gave the Eagles their first lead of the contest. BC went on to score three unanswered goals to close the first quarter with a 6-2 lead over UMass.
Olivia Muscella scored for the Minutewomen at the 11:32 mark of the second quarter, before BC increased the gap to 13-3 before the end of the stanza. Alex Finn contributed one goal and one assist, while Charlotte Clavelli scored her first collegiate goal with 2:30 to play in the contest.
Muscella led the charge offensively for UMass with six shots. Amy Moreau, Clavelli, and Harbinger contributed two shots each for the Minutewomen. Audra Tosone and Amy Moreau tabbed a season high four draw-controls each.
Boston College's North, led all scorers with seven goals, and tallied eight draw controls. The Eagles held an 18-12 advantage in draw controls and tallied only seven turnovers to 11 from the Minutewomen.
Gina Carroll clocked eight saves, while Bridgette Wall closed the contest with three.
Next up, The Minutewomen return to Garber Field to host Vermont in non-conference action, Wednesday, February 23 at 2:00 p.m.
