AMHERST, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team begins its 2022-23 season tomorrow with two days of action at the Colgate Invitational in Hamilton, N.Y. The Minutemen and Minutewomen follow this week's action at the Boston College Invitational beginning on Friday, Oct. 14.
Back In The Water
UMass opens the 2022-23 season at Colgate for the second consecutive year following the shortened COVID-19 season. The Minutemen finished second at the invitational a season ago with 1,049 points while the Minutewomen won with a team score of 1034. The men's team concluded competition with four wins and 11 top-three finishes on the final day last year with the women's squad tallying three wins and nine top-three finishes on Saturday.
The 2021-22 Season
Both teams concluded their 2021-22 seasons at the Atlantic 10 Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The men finished fifth at the league meet with 424.5 points, led by Jack Artis' pair of golds at the championship. Wilson Dubois added a silver medal in the 500 Free with Emerson Kiefer taking third in the 200 Free. The women took seventh with a team score of 278 points with Emma Petrovich claiming a runner-up finish in the 1-Meter Dive.
New Faces
The Minutewomen welcome in eight newcomers to the team for the 2022-23 season in seven incoming freshmen to go along with a graduate transfers. The men's team has six freshmen on the roster for the year.
Looking Ahead
The Minutemen and Minutewomen return to the pool following the Boston College Invitational to take on Boston University on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Boston. Both teams travel to New Haven, Conn. on Saturday, Nov. 5 to take on Yale before the three-day Terrier Invitational on Nov. 18-20.
