Breen Collects Fifth Career A-10 Player of the Week Award

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Graduate student Sam Breen was lauded the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon, for the fifth time in her career.
Breen averaged 21.3 points per game and 12.7 rebounds per game across three contests on the week. The graduate student earned double-doubles in all three games, tallying a team high 25 points and 13 rebounds at Rhode Island, tying a team best 19 points and having a team-high 12 rebounds against Dayton, and totaling a game-high 20 points and coming down with 13 boards at George Washington. From the field, the Gibsonia, Pa., native shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58), while making seven of 19 attempts (.368) from behind the arc. She also went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe, averaging 83.3 percent. Breen also finished the week with a total of eight assists, including five against Dayton, two blocks and six steals, including four alone at URI.
The graduate student sits in fourth in scoring with 17.4 points per game and 330 total points in the conference, while also ranking second in rebounds with 11.3 per game (214 total). In the nation, Breen is sixth in rebounds and tied for sixth with 12 double-doubles this season, while rankings 15th in defensive rebounds per game (7.9; 151 total). The Gibsonia, Pa., is also ranked seventh in field goal attempts (316), 16th in field goals made (132) and 16th in rebounds per game (11.3).
Massachusetts welcomes Rhode Island to the Mullins Center on Wednesday, January 26, for Alumna night at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed on NESN+.
