Karina Groff and Ashley Lamond scored as the Minutewomen recorded their fourth shutout of the season.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team pushed their unbeaten streak to eight matches with a 2-0 win over George Mason in the first Atlantic 10 match of the season at Rudd Field on Thursday afternoon. The unbeaten streak for the Minutewomen (6-2-2 Overall, 2-0-0 A-10) marks the longest since they went nine consecutive games without a loss in 2018.
Karina Groff put a game-high three shots on target for the Minutewomen, including a strike from range in the 20th-minute off an assist from Ashley Lamond to put UMass ahead 1-0. Groff's goal marked her second of the season as she fired a right-footed shot from the outside corner of the 18-yard box and into the back of goal.
Lamond got in on the scoring with a long-range strike of her own in the 54th-minute to give UMass a 2-0 advantage. Juliana Ryan found Lamond on a run down the left side of the field, which Lamond sent with her left foot over the keeper and into the right side of goal for her second goal of the year. Lamond finished with two shots for a UMass squad that attempted 14 on the day while Chandler Pedolzky added three with Lauren Robles attempting two.
Megan Olszewski and Bella Mendoza posted their second combined shutout of the year as Olszewski logged the first 71 minutes in goal for UMass before Mendoza entered in relief. Both goalkeepers finished with a pair of saves in a combined 12 shots faced with four on frame.
The Minutewomen return to action at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. kickoff against Rhode Island.
