Women’s Soccer Ties Akron, 1-1

October 11, 2026 | Women's Soccer

Reilly Tassinari recorded her first collegiate goal to help the Minutewomen to a draw.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer tied Akron, 1-1, at Rudd Field on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Reilly Tassinari scored her first career goal in the second half to help Massachusetts to its third straight draw.

The last time UMass went undefeated to start conference play (win or tie) in six straight contests was in the 1997 season (11-0-0 Atlantic 10).

Massachusetts moves to 9-1-3 overall and 3-0-3 in the Mid-American Conference, while Akron moved to 6-5-2 on the year and 2-2-2 in league competition.
UMass 9-1-3 overall record to start the 2026 season is the best start since going 9-1-1 to start the 1988 season.

Through the first 36 minutes of action, UMass had a couple of scoring opportunities. Monica Curry shot the ball of the post, before breaking away and taking shot outside the box that went just above the crossbar.

At the 37:42 mark, Akron got on the board first to take a 1-0 lead. Allie McMillen sent the ball forward as it deflected off her teammate Hattie Yugovich. Yugovich then settled the ball in front of her and sailed it into the bottom right of the goal.

After a few scoring chances in the second half, the Minutewomen found the back of net at the 63:43 mark. Tassinari took a shot that was blocked down, before corralling the ball again. Tassinari then booted it high over the keeper to the top right of the net, tying the game up at 1-1.

Massachusetts outshot Akron, 27-9, which included 14 shots on goal to the Zips' nine on net. The Minutewomen also held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.

Monica Curry had a career-high seven shots on the day, followed by Kayla Nohasiarisoa with four, and Tassinari, Caroline Dickson, Annie McCaffrey and Nia Hislop all with three. Both Curry and Dickson placed three shots on goal, with Tassinari and Hislop having two on target.

Junior goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld tallied four saves and allowed one goal in 45 minutes of action. Junior goalkeeper Julia Rosenberg played for 45 minutes in the second half, stopping three shots and not allowing a goal.

Sara Bower of Akron made 13 saves and allowed on goal in 90 minutes of competition.

Massachusetts heads to Buffalo, New York, on Thursday, October 15, for a 6 p.m. match against Buffalo on ESPN+.
