UMass Runs Past La Salle For Ninth Straight Win, 17-7

PHILADELPHIA – Nine different players scored a goal, led by six points from Haley Connaughton (four goals, two assists) as the Massachusetts women's lacrosse team (10-2, 5-0) rolled past La Salle (3-8, 1-5) on Friday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium, 17-7.
The victory extends the Minutewomen's winning streak to nine games, marking the ninth time under head coach Angela McMahon that Massachusetts has won at least nine games in a row in a season.
Connaughton was the story on offense for UMass throughout the afternoon, recording at least six points for the sixth time this season. She now leads the team with 56 points (28 goals, 28 assists) after entering the day 20thin the NCAA in total points.
Connaughton was assisted by three goals and one assist from Kelly Marra while Stephanie Croke (two goals, two draw controls), Kaitlyn Cerasi (two goals, one assist, two ground balls) and Olivia Muscella all found the back of the net twice on the afternoon.
Caitlyn Petro, the nation's leader in draw controls, continued to specialize in the area with 13 in the game, helping Massachusetts to a 20-5 advantage on the draw. Lauren Hiller, meanwhile, made four saves before giving way to Bridgette Wall (two saves) in the second half.
It took a while for the Minutewomen to get going in the game, leading just 3-1 through the opening 15 minutes of the game before using a 6-0 run over a 12:15 span to go up 9-1 late in the first half, book-ended by a pair of goals from Cerasi to pass Jackie Lyons for seventh on UMass' all-time goals list (144).
Massachusetts kept its foot on the gas into the second half, scoring six of the first seven goals to run the block and remain in control the rest of the way, with Croke starting and ending the run with both her goals on the day.
UMass will return home on Sunday to host Duquesne at 12 p.m. on ESPN+, where the Minutewomen will honor the members of the 2021 senior class.
