March 29, 2021 | Hockey
Gicewicz, Lindberg and Bohlinger honored after helping the Minutemen earn a second straight Frozen Four appearance.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey redshirt senior forward Carson Gicewicz, freshman defenseman Aaron Bohlinger and junior goaltender Filip Lindberg were recognized as the Hockey East Player, Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday. These mark the 13th, 14th and 15th weekly honors for members of the Minutemen this season after the trio helped UMass earn a second straight Frozen Four appearance.
Gicewicz scored four goals at the NCAA Bridgeport Regional, including one shorthanded tally and was +5 on the weekend. He chipped in key insurance goal in Friday's 5-1 win over Lake Superior State and followed up with UMass' first-ever NCAA Tournament hat trick and the first hat trick by any player in the NCAA Tournament since 2017 in Saturday's 4-0 win over Bemidji State as the Minutemen captured the East Regional Championship and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Lindberg was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Bridgeport Regional after posting a 0.50 goals-against average and a .980 save percentage over the two contests, making a total of 48 stops. He picked up his third career NCAA Tournament shutout with 18 saves against Bemidji State in the Regional Championship game, tying an NCAA record previously set by Boston College's Cory Schneider (2006-07).
Bohlinger assisted Sunday's game winner against the Beavers and was +3 on the weekend. He helped the Minutemen limit their opponents to just one goal in two games, including a 4-0 shutout against Bemidji State on Saturday.
