March 26, 2021 | Baseball
Massachusetts topped on the road, 18-1 Friday afternoon
BROOKLINE, Mass. – Northeastern used a seven-run bottom of the first inning to build a lead Massachusetts was unable to surmount as the Minutemen fell, 18-1, on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond. The teams will conclude the weekend series playing a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. from Friedman Diamond.
Steve Luttazi scored UMass' lone run in the sixth, reaching via a walk and moving into scoring position on a Kevin Skagerlind single. Luttazi tagged up and took third when Eddy Hart flew out, then scored on a wild pitch. In addition to Skagerllind's sixth inning base hit, the Minutemen received singles on the day from Jake Given as well as Luttazi.
For Northeastern, Kyle Murphy (1-0) was the winning pitcher and Jack Steele (2-2) took the loss for the Minutemen. Steele worked 4.1 innings in his start and was followed up by Zach Clevenger (2.2) and Spencer Bergeron (1.0) out of the bullpen.
Due to the ever-evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, game dates, times and opponents are subject to change. The best way to remain on top of any schedule updates is via the official UMass baseball schedule page, as well as the team's social media accounts (@UMassBaseball).
