Game 1
Northeastern 5, Massachusetts 2 (7 innings)
The Huskies scored three times in the first inning and once apiece in the second and fourth frames
Nolan Tichy came across with the first UMass run in the fifth inning. Tichy led off with a single to left field, moving up on a Steve Luttazi base hit and getting to third on a wild pitch. With two outs and Eddy Hart at the plate, a balk was called, giving both Luttazi and Tichy a free 90 feet and scoring Tichy.
In the sixth, leadoff hitter Aidan Wilde battled back for a walk after facing a 1-2 count. Stealing second base, Wilde ultimately scored when Michael Rounds slapped a two-out double to the gap in left center field. But UMass would get no closer and the game ended in a 5-2 score.
For Northeastern Cam Schlitter was the winning pitcher after a five-inning start. Max LeBlanc took the loss for the Minutemen and Zack Given worked the remaining 4.1 innings of the contest, allowing only one run on two hits and a walk, fanning two. NU's Brandon Dufault earned the save.
Game 2
Northeastern 4, Massachusetts 3
Eddy Hart and Michael Rounds each homered, and UMass later loaded the bases in the ninth, but the squad was unable to push across the tying run.
Southpaw Daniel Livnat started for the Minutemen and received a no-decision after five innings of one-run ball in which Livnat struck out a career-high seven batters. Tucker Wittman and Jack Pawloski (0-1) appeared out of the bullpen to cover the final three innings.
Northeastern would strike first on a second inning double from Jeff Costello that knocked in a run. That 1-0 score remained until Rounds' two-out solo home run equalized in the top of the fifth.
In the sixth, the Minutemen pulled ahead by two. Steve Luttazi opened the inning with a single up the middle. After a passed ball and two quick outs, with Luttazi on second Eddy Hart smacked a 2-1 offering to left center field, over the 370-foot marker and gone for Hart's first dinger of the season. It moved Massachusetts in front by a 3-1 score.
The Huskies got one back in the seventh on Ben Malgeri's RBI single, then pulled back in front 4-3 in the last of the eighth.
Massachusetts was on the brink of tying once again in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs. Aidan Wilde singled to left, then Mike Gervasi was hit by a pitch. Wilde and pinch runner Ryan Coleman moved up 90 feet due to a wild pitch before Dylan Judd worked a four-pitch walk. Now with the tying run at third, Jack Whorf sent a high fly ball to right field, but NU's Jared Dupere moved into position for the catch to end the ballgame.
