March 24, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The Massachusetts women's lacrosse team (5-2) had nine different scorers combine to score 20 goals in a road win over the University of Vermont (3-2) Wednesday afternoon, 20-7.
Massachusetts capitalized in nearly every facet of the game, winning 18 of 27 draws, causing 15 turnovers and outshooting the Catamounts 42-19 (34-16 on goal). Kaitlyn Cerasi led the way scoring with six points (five goals, one assist), while Stephanie Croke (three goals, two assists) and Kelly Marra (four goals) also finished with hat-tricks.
Caitlyn Petro was dominant again on the draw, winning 12 to herself, and Lauren Hiller saved eight of the 12 shots she saw. Ava Vasile, Meghan O'Connor and Maris Large led the way for Vermont with two goals each, while Sophie McLaughlin turned away 14 shots.
After each team scored once each in the first 75 seconds, the Minutewomen would go on to score the next seven in a row, and never looked back after that. Vermont broke the streak and scored three of the next six goals, before the Minutewomen launched an eight-goal run that covered 26 minutes of gameplay and put the game out of reach.
Inside the eight-goal Minutewomen run, Cerasi scored three consecutive goals herself, the last of which being her fifth of the game on eight shots total.
Vermont went on to score three of the last four goals to end the game after the Minutewomen push saw them leading 19-4. Emma Farnham divided the Catamount push and scored the 20th UMass goal with 6:26 left to play.
UMass will be back in action Sunday when the Minutewomen host La Salle at noon on Garber Field.
