AMHERST, Mass. – The Massachusetts women's soccer team will look to pick up its second straight conference victory on Sunday afternoon when the Minutewomen head to Fordham for a 3 p.m. match on ESPN+.
UMass is 14-6-2 all-time against the Rams, including a 4-0 victory last season on Rudd Field that sent the Minutewomen to the Atlantic 10 Semifinals for the first time since 2013.
Peric named A-10 Rookie of the Week
After scoring the game-winning goal in the 90th minute on Sunday, first-year defender Hannah Peric was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Monday. This is the second straight A-10 Rookie of the Week nod for the Minutewomen after Ella Curry earned the honor last week.
Peric picked a perfect time to notch her first collegiate tally on Sunday at La Salle, putting home a right-footed shot into the right corner of goal off a scramble in front of net after a late UMass free kick.
Last time out
Hannah Peric scored her first career goal in the 90th-minute to guide the Minutewomen to a 1-0 road win on Sunday afternoon at La Salle. The freshman put home a right-footed shot into the right corner of goal off a scramble in front of net after a late UMass free kick.
The Minutewomen needed a penalty stop from Alyssa Chase in the 30th-minute of action after La Salle was awarded a penalty kick. Chase came up with the save, diving to her right to secure the save on her way to finishing with five. The UMass keeper faced 19 Explorer shots on the day with five on target while the Minutewomen put all three of their shot attempts on frame.
Barry and Sclafani named 2020-21 captains
Head coach Jason Dowiak announced on Feb. 8 that seniors Fatou Barry and Dani Sclafani will serve as co-captains for the 2020-21 season.
"Fatou and Dani have displayed great leadership qualities throughout their time at UMass," Dowiak said. "They always display genuine care and concern for their teammates, the coaches, and our support staff. They truly embody our core values of Prepare, Actions, Compete, Serve, and Informed which gives me great confidence in naming them our captains."
UMass picked third in Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll
Massachusetts was picked to finish third in the Atlantic 10 in the conference's preseason coaches' poll released on Feb. 3. The Minutewomen earned 155 points in the poll, trailing only defending conference champion Saint Louis (194 points, 12 first place votes) and George Washington (171 points, one first place vote).
