Five Minutemen Named To Hockey East All-Star Teams

Trivigno, Jones, Lindberg, Del Gaizo and Kessel all earn postseason recognition..

AMHERST, Mass. – Five University of Massachusetts hockey student-athletes have been named Hockey East All-Stars, the league announced on Friday. Junior forward Bobby Trivigno earned his first career honor as a First Team All-Star, while junior goaltender Filip Lindberg and sophomore defenseman Zac Jones were tabbed Second Team All-Stars and junior defenseman Marc Del Gaizo and sophomore defenseman Matthew Kessel received Third Team All-Star nods.
 
Trivigno, the leading scorer for the Minutemen to date, is currently tied for third in Hockey East in points with 24 in 22 games on eight goals and 16 assists. The Setauket, New York native is tied for second in the league in assists (.73 assists per-game), tied for 10th in power-play points (8), tied for second in game-winning goals (2) and third in shots on goal (74). He was tabbed Hockey East Player of the Month for November/December and Hockey East Player of the Week on December 21.
 
Lindberg becomes just the second UMass goaltender to garner a Hockey East All-Star selection, joining Jonathan Quick who earned a spot on the second team in 2006-07. He currently leads the league with a 1.61 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage, while sitting second in the nation in both categories. The Espoo, Finland native has appeared in nine games this season and holds a 4-1-4 record with two shutouts.

Jones, who was an All-Rookie Team selection a year ago as a freshman, is tied for third in Hockey East for defensemen scoring at .77 points per-game with 17 points on six goals and 11 assists over 22 games. Overall in Hockey East, the Glen Allen, Virginia native ranks 17th in point scoring, tied for 10th in power-play points (8) and tied for eighth in shots on goal (64). Nationally among defensemen he is tied for third in goals, tied for seventh in goals per-game (0.27), tied for 12th in points and tied for eighth in 13th points-per game.
 
Del Gaizo is a third team Hockey East All-Star for the second time in his career after first collecting the award as a freshman in 2018-19. He is presently tied for fifth in the league in plus-minus at +15. The Basking Ridge, New Jersey native has 10 points through 20 games on two goals and eight assists.
 
Kessel, the current national leader in goals by defensemen (9), goals per-game by defensemen (0.41) and power-play goals by defensemen (5), has logged 17 points (9g, 8a) in 22 contests. The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan is tied for third in Hockey East for defensemen scoring at 0.77 points per-game, tied for 12th nationally in points by defensemen and tied for 13th nationally in points per-game by defensemen. Overall in Hockey East, he is tied for seventh in goals, tied for second in power-play goals, tied for second in game-winning goals (2) and tied for 17th in points per-game.
