Western Mass Native Evan Moorhouse Joins Massachusetts Hockey As Director Of Player Development
June 01, 2026 | Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey head coach Greg Carvel has announced the addition of Evan Moorhouse to his staff as the team's director of Player Development. Moorhouse, a Western Massachusetts native, brings more than 13 years of college hockey experience to the staff, with a focus on developing goaltenders.
"I am excited to welcome Evan Moorhouse into the UMass hockey family as I believe that he is an up-and-coming young coach with exceptional potential," said Carvel. "Evan has been on staff at Brown University for the last seven years and has proven his ability to develop goaltenders, and he will be primarily responsible for the same at UMass. Evan served on the staff at the Spengler Cup this past winter, but even before that I had become aware of him as a rising star in the college hockey world. This is a homecoming for Evan, having grown up in Westfield, so I know that he is as excited as I am about this opportunity."
Moorhouse comes to UMass after a stint at Brown where he was most recently an assistant coach and director of operations for the men's hockey program. He previously served as the director of operations for both the men's and women's hockey teams at Brown since joining Bears in January 2020.
In addition to his operations duties, Moorhouse expanded his role in 2023-24 and worked with the Brown goaltending unit. Under Moorhouse's guidance Lawton Zacher had a stellar rookie season, starting 26-of-30 games in 2023-24 and earning Brown's First Year Male Athlete of the Year Award.
In 2024-25, Brown's goalies posted a .920 combined save percentage, the highest by the Bears goaltenders since the 2012-13 season. Zacher was named a Mike Richter Award Semifinalist, a Hobey Baker Award nominee and a Walter Brown Award nominee in addition to earning All-ECAC Second Team recognition, ECAC Goaltender of the Month once and three ECAC Goalie of the Week awards.
This past season, Moorhouse was part of the inaugural United States Collegiate Selects Spengler Cup staff, serving as the video coach and hockey operations coordinator for the Spengler Cup runner-up squad.
Prior to his stint at Brown, Moorhouse served as the Director of Hockey Operations with the University of Vermont women's hockey program for two seasons.
A 2016 graduate of Westfield State, Moorhouse played hockey and baseball for the Owls. He spent the 2016-17 season as an assistant men's hockey coach at Westfield before spending the 2017-18 season as the Director of Men's Hockey Operations at American International College.
