Massachusetts Hockey Adds Transfer Gavin Cornforth To 2026-27 Roster

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 5-9, 170-pound right shot forward Gavin Cornforth to its roster for 2026-27. The Boston, Massachusetts, native will be a sophomore this upcoming season and is the sixth new addition for the Minutemen thus far, joining forwards Max Curran, Maxim Massé and Melvin Novotny and defensemen Barrett Dexheimer and Mathieu Taillefer.
"Gavin is a transfer forward known for his high energy, competitive edge, and reliable two-way play," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "As a Massachusetts native, Gavin will wear the jersey with pride, he will bring an attention to detail and a consistent willingness to battle. He is a player that brings UMass identity shift in and shift out."
Cornforth played 18 games for Boston College last season, tallying three assists before departing for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and joining the Moncton Wildcats. With the Wildcats, he logged 30 points on 12 goals and 18 assists and was +22 in 29 regular season contests and had 13 points (9g, 4a) in 21 playoff games.
He previously spent three seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Dubuque Fighting Saints from 2022 to 2025, serving as an alternate captain in 2024-25. Cornforth posted 46 goal and 50 assists for 96 points in 173 regular season games with Dubuque and had an additional 11 points (4g, 7a) in postseason play over 23 games.
