Three Minutemen Earn Atlantic 10 Postseason Awards

Graduate students Filippo Begliardi Ghidini and Yosuke Hanya were named second-team all-conference.
AMHERST, Mass. – Three University of Massachusetts men's soccer players earned Atlantic 10 Postseason awards as announced by the league on Thursday afternoon. Filippo Begliardi Ghidini and Yosuke Hanya were named second team all-conference while Graham Brenner was tabbed all-academic.

Begliardi Ghidini (Ravenna, Italy) finished tied for third in the Atlantic 10 in goals with nine and game-winning goals with four on his way to ranking fourth in the league in points with 21. The forward scored in five consecutive games, including three straight league matches on his way to earning Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week honors twice. Begliardi Ghidini put home four goals and added an assist in A-10 play, including goals against a top-25 ranked Saint Louis team and a game-winner at Davidson.

Hanya (Tokyo, Japan) finished tied for ninth in the Atlantic 10 in assists with five and led the Minutemen in the category. The midfielder logged 1,538 minutes in the UMass midfield, helping the Minutemen to 1.20 goals per game in the process. Hanya picked up assists in conference road wins at Saint Joseph's and Davidson and scored a goal in a matchup at No. 10-ranked Pittsburgh.

Brenner (Londonderry, N.H.) was named to the all-academic team after logging all 1,654 minutes in the UMass defense, helping the Minutemen hold A-10 opponents to 1.13 goals per game. The senior assisted on the game-winning goal in a road win at UMass Lowell and helped the UMass defense to shutouts in four of their final five conference matches.
