Men’s Soccer Hosts Rhode Island For Grassroot Soccer Game

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team hosts Rhode Island for its Grassroot Soccer charity game at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Rudd Field. The Minutemen will fund raise in conjunction with Grassroot Soccer in the hope to raise enough money to send at least 100 at-risk youth through Grassroot Soccer's programs.

The Minutemen hope to raise at least $250 in donations for each player to put towards the cause. On game day, the Minutemen will warm up in Grassroot Soccer shirts in addition to informational announcements for awareness. The team will also provide educational brochures highlighting the organization's significant and measurable work. Grassroot Soccer is an international organization that uses the power of soccer to educate and mentor adolescents about their greatest health challenges, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence. For every $25 donated, an at-risk child is supported through Grassroot Soccer's programs and given a far greater opportunity to lead a healthy life.
