Massachusetts Hockey Duo Earns Monthly Awards From Hockey East

Junior Bobby Trivigno named Player of the Month and freshman Josh Lopina tabbed Rookie of the Month for November/December.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey junior forward Bobby Trivigno and freshman forward Josh Lopina have been recognized as the Hockey East Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month for November/December, the league office announced on Monday. It marks the first career monthly honors for both players.
Trivigno led all Hockey East skaters with 14 points on four goals and 10 assists, helping UMass post a 6-3-1 record in November and December, including ending December on a four-game winning streak, all without taking a penalty during that span and was +4. The Setauket, New York native capped the month of December with three straight multi-point games and eight points of in that span, part of a still active five-game point scoring streak.
The junior opened the season with a pair of assists in a 5-1 win over UConn on Nov. 20 and scored his first goal of the season on Dec. 5 in a 3-1 win over Merrimack. He contributed a shorthanded tally in a 4-0 win over Vermont on Dec. 19 and contributed three assists in a 4-1 victory over the Catamounts the following night. Trivigno scored the game winner and had two assists in a 6-2 victory over UConn on Dec. 23 and collected a goal and an assist in a 4-0 shutout of New Hampshire on Dec. 30.
Lopina paced all freshmen nationally with 116 faceoff wins across November and December, 53 more than the next closest rookie. The Minooka, Illinois native had four goals, three coming on the power play and three assists for seven points during that span. He scored the first two goals of his career vs. No. 2 Boston College on Nov. 27 and posted another multi-point game with a power-play goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Merrimack on Dec. 5. Lopina notched his first career game winning goal on the power play vs. Vermont on Dec. 20.
