Rising senior Jake Gaudet will wear the “C” for the Minutemen next season, while rising juniors Marc Del Gaizo and Bobby Trivigno will don “A”s.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey rising senior Jake Gaudet will serve as team captain, while rising juniors Marc Del Gaizo and Bobby Trivigno have been named assistant captains for the 2020-21 season, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Thursday.

"Leadership on any team is critically important. It often determines what level of success your group will achieve," said Carvel. "In saying this, I am excited to announce our captains for next season as they all do an excellent job embodying our teams' core values and exemplifying the UMass hockey standard on a daily basis. All three captains have played significant roles in changing the culture of UMass hockey and will certainly do everything in their powers to continue pushing our program forward."

Gaudet missed significant time during 2019-20 due to injury, but has been a steady and physical presence in the UMass lineup over the past three seasons, especially over the faceoff dots where he holds a 50.7 career winning percentage (733 for 1446). The Ottawa, Ontario native has appeared in 96 career games and has logged 40 points on 15 goals and 25 assists. He enters his senior year ninth all-time for the Minutemen in career plus-minus at +23.

Following a standout rookie campaign which saw him earn Hockey East Third Team All-Star, Hockey East All-Rookie Team and All-CHN Rookie Team accolades in 2018-19, Del Gaizo battled injuries throughout the start of the 2019-20 campaign, but still managed to produce 15 points on four goals and 11 assists in 22 contests. The 2019 Nashville Predators' fourth round selection scored the overtime game winner against Denver in the 2019 NCAA Semifinal to vault the Minutemen into the NCAA Championship game and was subsequently named to the Frozen Four All-Tournament Team. Thus far through two seasons in Amherst, The Basking Ridge, New Jersey, native has seen action in 63 contests and has contributed 44 points in 17 goals and 27 assists. He currently ranks second all-time in career plus-minus in the UMass record book at +40.

Bobby Trivigno posted his second straight 20-point season for the Minutemen in 2019-20 and is one of UMass' top returning goal scorers for 2020-21 having potted nine this past year to go along with 11 helpers and was +21. Through two seasons at UMass, the Setauket, New York, native has 48 points in 73 games on 22 goals and 26 assists. He is currently tied for fifth all-time in career plus-minus at +30.
