Massachusetts Lacrosse Takes Home 11-9 Win From UMass Lowell

Procyk scores career-high-tying five goals; Knote makes 12 saves

LOWELL, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse battled back and forth with UMass Lowell at the Cushing Field Complex and secured victory over the River Hawks, 11-9, on the strength of five goals by Gabriel Procyk, a hat trick by Jeff Trainor and 12 saves from Matt Knote.
 
Procyk led Massachusetts with five goals while Trainor posted three goals and one assist for four total points. Charlie O'Brien, Billy Philpott and Mike Tobin scored once each. Chris Connolly and Kevin Tobin dished out two assists apiece, while Mike Tobin also had one.
 
Matt Knote made 12 saves in the cage and had a groundball. Zack Hochman won 14-of-23 faceoffs and scooped up four groundballs. Jackson Suboch led the defense with two caused turnovers and also had two groundballs.
 
Conor Foley provided seven points for the River Hawks on two goals and five assists. Matt Murakami finished with 14 saves, including 10 in the second half.
 
After Massachusetts led by four at halftime, 8-4, the River Hawks closed the gap to one on multiple occasions during the second half before the Minutemen sealed their win.
 
Kyle LaForge capped a three-goal run for the home squad and cut the deficit to 8-7 in the process with 10 minutes, 14 seconds to go play in the third quarter. From there, the teams traded goals through the final horn.
 
Philpott answered for UMass at the 7:38 mark when he cut toward the right post and fired in his fifth goal of the season; however, the River Hawks answered after the ensuing faceoff to move back within one of tying. O'Brien doubled the lead with his first conversion of the season five minutes later and Massachusetts took a two-goal advantage into the final frame.
 
LaForge scored again with seven minutes to play, but the UMass defense held the River Hawks scoreless the remainder of the way. Procyk found the back of the net for the fifth time with 4:35 left for the final margin.
