The 5'10", 187-pound forward won Gold with Team USA at the World Junior A Challenge this past winter.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has signed 5'10", 187-pound forward Calen Kiefiuk to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Friday. The Macomb, Michigan native joins fellow forwards Reed Lebster and Peyton Reeves as the third member of the Minutemen's incoming freshman class for 2019-20 after spending the past three seasons playing in the United States Hockey League (USHL).
"Cal is a high energy, fast skating forward with good offensive sense and ability that will fit in really well with our identity on the ice, said Carvel. "His skating ability and his compete level, combined with a strong skill set, should make him an impactful player from day one for the Minutemen. Although he was a late edition to this recruiting class, we are extremely excited to add Cal to our group."
Kiefiuk saw action in 162 USHL games over three seasons in the league, logging 98 points on 37 goals and 61 assists. He spent the past two campaigns as a member of the Central Illinois Flying Aces, playing in all situations en route to two straight 40-point seasons. Kiefiuk served as an assistant captain for Central Illinois in 2018-19 and finished second on the squad in scoring.
This past winter, Kiefiuk won a Gold Medal with Team USA at the World Junior A Challenge, scoring twice over six games in the tournament.
